on the question of gamma - or any amount of "non RPers"....
if you don t expect roleplay, you will not find any. - if you expect "lolwutters" you will spot them at every corner. if you are convinced that non-factionized players are pond scum and cannot roleplay for their life, - you will see yourself confirmed.
its selective perception. - one cannot help it. - you turn a blind eye on what you don t want to see... everyone does it. - but one should be aware of it.
if a person goes to gamma and is convinced that there are traces of roleplay and if he wants to spot evidence that "its not as bad as people say" he will most certainly see what he wants to see.
and now the point of it all.
if you talk about lolwutters and bad RP - .... you create your own perception. - then lolwutters and bad RP is all you get, cause you become blind to good roleplay or attempts that might be a foundation of better improvement.
that doesn t mean that we need to go around sirius with a smile on our face expecting only the very best of each and everyone - but we should be critical about waht we see AND expect. a blissful state of mind is not helpful - but its as detrimental for the own gaming experience as to be overcritical or just biased about other people roleplay.
its like 4.84 - people screamed loudly and totally convinced that "each and every BHG they saw for practicly month was flying a capital warship" - and even if there had been fighters and bombers around with a bright and shiney BHG tag and ID.... they would not have seen them. - if asked later.... they would have SWORN that there had never been any BHG with a fighter ( for months ).
when you expect only the worst in others, when you truely believe in gamma being the sesspool of evil, - that is what you get... and you ruin your own game. - and the irony is, its your fault then. - every system has its problems, but usually - its quite balanced. - you see good RP and bad RP everywhere. - come to that, i have seen many people attempt a convincing RP in gamma - surprisingly, even without any official-faction-watchdog around.
people that created a believable "setting" for gamma - a setting that made me believe that gamma is actually the frelling corsair homeworld.... a system which is not only deadly but also chained in a very powerful tradition and honourcode.
but you only get such experiences when
- you are lucky and the people really RP their part ( admittedly )
- when you are open minded and don t expect the worst
same goes for new york. - when you fly into new york without being convinced to enter the ooc capital of sirius - new york can be pretty exciting - even RPed well.
