If you have a horde of light fighters? Sure, they'd eat up anything that can't absorb their combined DPS (damage per second), but the benefit of a heavier fighter is always to be able to shrug off more damage than the lighter classes can.
' Wrote:HF's are already used a lot. They have great agility -and- they have a torp mount. Just most people automatically go for the VHF as soon as they think fighters. LF's are used a bit too, but only really the Liberator, the Nomad Assassin and Morphling, and perhaps some Kusari ones are deployed in great numbers. Agreed that most others could use a little buff.
Argonaut, SHF's are pretty well useless, as Nighthawk said. Bomber-bait. Size of a gunboat and one SNAC sends them to hell. The only people you'll be killing are idiots, or maybe capships with the right loadout.
As for the general idea: Way too fiddly. Balancing nightmares. More trouble than its worth, and the potential to completely tear apart the community if it's done wrong.
I don't think it'll create a schism or something in the community at all. As those changes would only affect which fighter class can catch up to another one, or catch up to a bomber... which will probably annoy a lot of folks, as they'd no longer be able to avoid contact when thrusting away from a fighter... and on their part need fighter cover.
' Wrote:If we really needed to implement these ideas.. small changes. 10 m/s up for LFs, 5 for HFs or something.
Also possible, but if the differences are too small, the effect of catching up in time - and thus being able to attack an attacker  - will be lost.
