' Wrote:Guild wars 2. to hell with monthly payments, I'm done with 'em. The originals player base was huge, so I am sure this one will be large as well.
I pay per month for things in real life, don't want to do it to escape.
I dont mind pay to play as long as large amounts of high quality content are continually added. What's wrong with WoW is the fact that, instead of adding content like they should through updates (very little was added in the way of patches/updates over the last 4 years), they've decided to not only take your monthly payment, but make you go out and spend 60-80$ on an expansion in order to keep playing.
The way I see it, the monthly fee goes partly towards server maintenance and hardware upgrades, partly towards paying the people who made the game, and partly towards developing FREE expansions. Take the average monthly payment (15$/mo) and divide it into thirds... I'm paying 5$ a month to feed the families of the game developers, NOT to stuff the CEO's pockets. I'm paying 5$ a month to ensure that the servers are upgraded with the best hardware and software and arent laggy, and I'm paying 5$ a month for the expansion content to be included free of any other charges.
At 5$ a month, a normal 60$ expansion can be released once per year. It takes 12 months of 5$ payments to come out with a 60$ product. That I'm fine with.
The problem is that these companies are not splitting the money like that. They're putting 10-12$ a month into the CEO's pockets, and 1$ a month towards employee payment and half-assed content updates, and THEN charging anothera 60-80$ a year so that you can buy expansions.
