My suggestion would be to try and make your characters fun to play.
Give them some quirk or failing that provides them with character.
You can develop their history after time playing.
Making them immortal or invincible takes the fun out of it.
Make them human with faults and feelings.
When it comes to describing the action, use any viewpoint you want.
Once you have a character you can understand, everything that happens ingame has a story to go with it.
Do what you like. There's endless options available.:)
