That should be the first thing you do, check the ID, I know I do it by default on every trader that comes through the lanes.
We're also clear with the messages we are using, what is going on. That added to the Guard IFF that should register as red to most people out there is a warning.
It really isn't that difficult to hit the scan button and check while you are RP-ing out the opening scene.
It is a matter of who's responsibility is it? Courtesy is fine, but if we start educating everyone via PM we're going to have a lot of running traders using that PM time in an effort to get away.
You are confused, hit the scan button and check first. Nice and simple, and we ALWAYS alot time for it... of course you may loose your shields, but that's normal for this type of encounter.

Yeah, it comes down to the disco scanner / adv cargo scanner arguement
Sure, disco may give you SLIGHTLY better range for stuff in nebulas, but it's ALWAYS better to see their ID (and kit) at max range.
