Captain Edmund Brackenbury walked into the bar today in very high spirits. Him and his girlfriend had secured a trip to tour Liberty: a a week and a half on Manhattan, a week on Denver, and a week on Los Angeles. Now he just had to wait for a month or so.
The second thing that had him up in spirits was that his best friend was transferring to his battleship, the Sierra. Brackenbury's chief medical officer had recently retired from the military, and Dr. Jeff Kerrigan had juts recently secure the position.
Brackenbury was not the only one happy about this transfer, but Kerrigan was also. He too walked into the bar in high spirits, and almost ran into Brackenbury, as the captain hadn't moved from his spot right in front of the door. They moved over to the Beta table, which neither of them hadn't sat at in a long time.
"What can I get you guys?" Joanne called.
"Nothing today, Joanne," Brackenbury called, "I'm not in the mood."
"That's a new one, Captain," Beta three called over to him while taking a large handful of cashews, and a sip from his mug.
"You can get me a margarita, Joanne," Kerrigan called over to the bar, pleased at himself for remembering the drink. He had only really heard of Liberty citizens talking about it. Mike promptly delivered a large margarita.
"Actually, something tropical sounds good," Brackenbury said, and then called Mike back before he could was out of earshot and ordered a Pi?a Colada.
"What's going on with you two, we haven't spoken in a while?" one of the bomber jocks asked.
"Been an excellent day. Jeff here got transfered to my ship, and I've secured my trip to Liberty with my girlfriend."
"Nice of you to rub it in, Edmund, I'm still single," Kerrigan said.
"Trust me, it has its advantages."
"Yeah, well it's not as if I don't wish I could get a free vacation to Los Angeles," Kerrigan laughed. Brackenbury looked at him, then said, "you're a doctor, Jeff, if they aren't paying you what doctors normally get, maybe you should file a complaint. Besides, my girlfriend is working the entire time." Kerrigan later added, "Not really, but the little that she is doing is a good excuse."
"Oh, I'm not saying that the BAF pays me too little, I'm just saying I wish I could get to Manhattan for free. I've heard it's a city that everyone has to visit at some point in there lives."
"Well," responded Brackenbury, "when I get back, I'll tell you, and if it's worth it, we can save up for a trip."
"Not a bad idea, Edmund, let's do it."
At this point, yet another member of Beta squadron came back from getting more drinks. "Come on, you two, have fun now and talk about more fun later."
Both Brackenbury and Kerrigan realized they were ruining the fun now, they turned and engaged themselves with the others at Beta Squadron's table.
