"No, dad, i dont care to join you in the 'family business'. i'm twentythree years old for crying out loud!"

"then if you dont need me or your family, then get off my ship, you are just dead weight. no son of mine is going to freelance; if you arnt willing to take on the business, then you arnt any son of mine! get out!"

Kody stormed out of the room, and down the corridor, and took a left towards the hanger bays.

~fine.. i'm gone.. this was all the chance i need.~

"where are you goin?" came an unexpected voice as he rounded another corner.

"i'm gettin out of here, Allison, i cant take it. he's never going to understand i need a little more excite ment than stareing at navigation screens all the time, and joting down price and supply need information, and planning course's. i wish Uncle Brady were here. he would understand"

"your uncle.. you know he's a fairly infamous man dont you?"

"yeah. but even then, dad used to tell me stories about the two of them, about their escape from sugarland as kids, their travels in penn, the mining and smuggling in Tau, and how they rose from nothing.. the whole thing is just too exciting for me not to make a name for myself out there. and now dad's just a small time zoner making a living in the quiet life."

"but.."

"no buts about this Allison, i'm going. dad just gave me my chance, i'm not going to miss it. i'm gonna miss you, but i'll be back, so no worries there, alright?"

"alright.."

"care to see me off?"

"i'll give you the wave off from the bridge, i have to get back to my duties.. your father wants us to head back out to the yukon soon to make sure they have everything they need."

And with that, Kody made his way to his Virage VHF. as he climbed intot he coctpit and fired up the displays, he smiled at the designation near the top which read "Z-12|Foror".

~that, is not changing. i dont plan on forgetting where i'm from~

and with that, he flipped on his Zoner transponder IFF, and took off for the nearest jumphole, his emotions mixed between upset and yet at the same time eager to begin his own life anew. he took a picture of his fathers ship moored outside the hulking mass of Bethlehem Station.

his voice crackled over the radio through his fathers console "you know i love you, i will be back dad, i promise"
