Is there any outstanding/official story for how the lanes got destroyed? Or what ended the battle as such?

I'd like to know because I want to start a story of mine that includes this information. Don't go away and say "one sec i'l make it up and post it" because it would be nice for me to be able to post it in a way I had in mind.
