If we're talking about Ames you can always go through the jump hole in Ontario and head towards Canaria or the Taus so is there any point in a jump hole to Tau 29? The problem is the other way (east), you have to either have to go through Rheinland space or Kusari space to get to the Sigmas and Omicrons which can be a pain.
I think what Ames needs is a cargo with a decent trade price to take to Gran, in the good old days before Zoners were banished from house stations I used to pickup Alloys from Colorado, but now there isn't anything worth picking up from Ames other than software which is the reason it's a pain going through Kusari and Rheinland.
