Well, I think the reason people are getting annoyed is the fact that they are not making a profit from trading, when the vast majority of their profits are getting pirated away.
More credits in hand and less feeling of loss actually lead to a better interaction for the majority of normal traders.

No, what I think should be done is to give the weaker Transports (ie, transports other than, say, the Shire or the Percheron) a slight boost to enhance their survivability in convoys, but ease up on the Pirate rules of engagement. That way, traders would be encouraged to fly in convoys (and so would be pirates), which in turn would lead to more roleplay and maybe even less boredom during the endless grinding sessions everybody seems to have to do nowadays to get a PvP-ready ship...
How are they protected more than they deserve it?
Also, is that not the same thinking which ruined mining and the current economy?
