I have been forced to station more and more (properly tagged as mercenarys) firepower in the sectors to keep my profits from getting plowed. Is this a good practice however, I ask? Even if you don't F-1 out of the fight amd let your ship be pirated or destroyed, is it still against the rules to log back into your merc char afterwards? RP'ing that is simple, "I have a merc on retainer and I put a call out to him". But is it right? Don't know.
It was allowed under certain rules, but now it is a flat no. Hire an Escort or maybe some factions will start doing their jobs instead of selectly logging in <_< Or do what most traders are doing. Buy a container ship and load it up with buckshot turrets. No fighter pirates will ever get you and with that many turrets sometimes you can give a gunboat enough trouble you can make it to safety. Personally, I'm found of life 4 debs and the rest buckshot. That will chew up a pirate quick like.
You could also just pay them or let them kill you. It's only one kill and the most profitable routes it isn't going to hurt you since they are only allowed to pirate you once.
