Ok here comes the two bits from a person that plays games alot just for storylines...
Halo 3 ending was all too left open. Yes it screamed sequel and yes... Master chief is still alive. A member of bungie said, now i forget the link, that the Halo trilogy, note that I've I said trilogy, was over. This was the end of what is known as the Halo series. Now if you look at a game in Bungie's past, namely one named "Marathon" you will start to see connections between the end of Halo 3 and the beggining of Marathon. One very obvious connection is that in Marathon, you crash land on a planet in a cyro-stasis/capsule device... hint hint. Also if you notice throughout the Halo series the Marathon symbol was everywhere, even Guilty Sparks light on his face was the Marathon symbol. Obivously Bungie still has strong ties with its original game.
Now, this does no say anything about Microsoft. Microsoft for a fact will Milk the Halo series until its as dry as the Sahara desert. Books, graphic novels, merchandise, arcade games, memorbilia will continually be produced and produced unto the likeness of Star Wars. We know that Halo wars is coming out so there is another thing that milking this Series.
About the Fall of the Reach statement. Actuall, when the director is done with Hellboy2, the name of the Halo movie is "Halo: Fall of the Reach". This will be based solely on the events prior to Halo: Combat Evolved and will give some insight on Master Chief kicking covenant booty. Honestly, I don't know about this movie, it may become one of those ideas gone really bad for hollywood mainly because this is going to be a Live Action film... they better get John's voice right.
So IMO Bungie is going back and making Marathon once more. Re-doing it, making it cool, and having fun. This will be nice as I liked marathon and hope to play the new one if and when it comes out.
