The thing i find interesting is that those trailers with the old men are set in the early 27th century around 40-50 years after the events on the games, the cheif himself is also around 40 in the games and therfore would be quite old(around 100). This means that the trailers of the old men are of little significance, other than telling us that after 40-50 years he still hasnt returned to earth. Bear in mind also that we have no idea what the average human lifespan would be in the 26th-27th century, it might be longer but bungie hasnt said anything on that at all so for now im assuming that its roughly the same as nowadays.
This dosent mean that there wont be another halo game, the ending gives the impression that whatevers next has something to do with that planet, which in my opinion makes perfect sense as the story of the Human-Covenant war is over.
Just remember, its a big ole Galaxy with plenty of things bungie could make up for another story arc, and still involving the cheif.:D
