Basically the way it was put to me was the old Molly faction, the UoG wanted to put some information down for their gaurd system and so wrote it up. This has then been subsequently used to justify this supposed Molly hatred for the Corsairs - which, ok fair enough because its written there people are basing off it.
But from the old-school Corsair point of view it is a bit "wut?" considering that the players and factions had absolutely nothing to do with it. It would essentially be like a brettonian faction deciding to hate liberty because "Liberty bombarded Manchester and killed millions!!!!!" even though in game, it never happened and none of the Liberty players were involved at all.. it is to be honest, quite cheeky.
But as you say, its there. But you are right, quite frankly the Mollies have reason to shoot at Corsairs simply because Corsairs are in Dublin trying to steal their stuff.
