Detroit has medium sized people movers and, man, they ain't pretty and they make awful noises.

In all seriousness, though, I rather thought the Mammoth, Percheron, Behemoth, and Big Dragon/Bumblebee to be good people movers. I mean, they're one solid thing, it would make some deal of sense that the cabins were pressurized. They're rather nice medium people movers.

edit: Your entire post ignored EVERYONE outside of your select roleplay niche, the corporate/rich fatcat cruise ship. There are many more opportunities to use Liners than that, and the reason they don't spring up is because of how restricted Liners are. Your post essentially said that yes, Corporations can use it, but everyone else needs SRP, as stated by putting them in the realm of Corporate ID. How is that not the purview of a select few factions?
Yup. Bingo skippy. Kind of the same reason that non-corporate IDs are limited to 3800 cargo. Why should some joe-blow from the street be flying around in a big ship with a bunghole load of people under their care when they're not licensed through a corporation? ZAS (and other groups) would absolutely need an SRP to be allowed to pilot a giant ship that can haul lots of PEOPLE.

If you think that all Navy, Police, trade, mining, pretty much any lawful faction is a "select few factions", then more power to you.
Yup, you're right about the Demo at least. I'd call the Geisha an in-between, if not for the god-awful "sculpture" in the middle of the thing. The Pelican is a fine startoff point for a passenger hauler. Big enough to haul a fair amount of people, but small enough to not be a HUGE catastrophe if you screw up.

Now, what is needed is medium passenger transports. Preferably small (2500 - 3000 cargo) people movers, likely each House getting their own medium people-mover. This is something that's been missing in Disco for a while in favor of boomboom ships. A failing as i see it.

I'll concede the point, but /never/ call me skippy. Ever. It's condescending, and so help me got I will find you. '_'

That's not bad, and would work i suppose, but there's just no windows to see the sites as you're moving. Even a city bus has big windows. These four are a good jumping off point, I like the cut of your jib.

Updated character list is now a part of my profile. You dastardly Colonial!

Just real quick, I dont know how many times I have said it, "The Geisha is not a Liner, it's not a yacht, it is a Luxury Transport." There is only one Yacht in the game, the Demo, it's not a class. (yet)

No, but it sure used to be a Liner, in name and function, until it was retconned into the ... thing ... it is today. Some memories are long. The Geisha should be a liner, or a yacht, not some hybrid. What the fudge is a "Luxury Transport" anyway? Something that can haul your Ship Hull Panels in style?

The Geisha should be lumped in with the Democratus. The thing looks a lot like something an over-the-top Kusari would be flown around in. And, you know, that's all besides the fact that the Geisha is called a "yacht"

Sorry, seems the name got changed on me. Aside from that, this ship was never a liner, the only connection it has with a liner is that it replaced the Beetle, the Kusari Cruise Liner, which just so everyone at home can keep score, wasn't really a liner.

That being said, I dont know why every ship needs to be able to be "lumped in" with some other ship. Each Geisha is custom built, that means, it could be built to carry passengers, it could be built to carry cargo, it can be built to haul contraband, or it can be built to be a nightclub. It's a neat ship that can be used for pretty much any thing you want. Why cant it just be left as it is?

Now this is me personally, but I wouldn't want to see some jackhole in a Geisha flitting around hauling uncut diamonds in his pagoda. Maybe that's just me.

The "lumping in" part comes in the passengers or cargo genre. I'd still like a rule in place where Liners (and maybe yachts) can't carry >250 non-human units of cargo. In that case, the Geisha would be thrown in with the rest of the Liners, same as the Yacht. maybe make Yachts a sub-class of liners, same as Fighters have three (or four if you say boomers) classes.

Can't there be some decent mid-level transports? And when I say transport, I mean people transport. It seems like every transport out there is geared to rich people and large corporations/governments. What about something in the middle? A tramp steamer, so to speak.

Restricting Yachts to human cargo would be annoying ... Mine carries a single VIP (who owns it), somewhere around 20 crew, another 150 or so units of assorted luxury items from all around Sirius, and then the rest full of Pharmaceuticals (since the owner is a rich doctor and all). In your proposal, this would be limited by FLHook, and I'd need to go get a SRP for it. Except wait, SRPs don't really affect flhook restrictions, so that wouldn't work.

Liners, yes, I can see making them limited to human cargo and the accompanying food rations and consumer goods. They're not trade ships, they're for carrying people. You have a few rich people that own corporations and are in the governments who can afford their own, but in that case they wouldn't need to carry other goods because they are freakin rich from other means. Oh Noes, your government VIP has to dead haul in his Royal Liner...

As for weapons, please don't make them gunboats/cruisers. They're not warships, and shouldn't be, they're people movers. Transport class weapons are perfect in terms of RP (except how they have the range of the length of the ship itself...). Your cruise ship should have an escort or two if it's going in dangerous places, that's not unreasonable to expect.

Making them restricted to corporations? Ehh, who else would spend the money on a ship that size to only carry other people? You don't need to be a member of an official faction remember, it's just the ID that counts.

Somewhat agree here, but I wonder if it would honestly be used enough to justify making it. Also, how many people are going to jump on a random tramp's ship when they could book a ride on a nice looking one?
I did think a while ago about some sort of group that is effectively what airlines are now, just taking people from place to place for business reasons and not cruises like OSC does, but realized that planets are so large that most people would never have the need to go planet to planet for business. It would either be on the same planet or over a videoconference or something.

Falconer, I agree with liners being FLhook ninja'd into not being able to fly a lot of nonhuman cargo, but leave the Yacht out of it.

Imagine it being RPed as a Smuggler. She's a fast ship (indeed, faster than other transports) and might just have a double hull, or some other such thing.

Geisha as well, I guess.

Also, what Aquila said about the middle ground people movers... sort of a bus maybe? A specialised container that is mountable on short trains, and can carry passengers (but not VIP) around?

What if someone lives on Manhattan, and works on Fort Bush?
