I'm not one to say 'good work disco dev team you did great', but on average Discovery has been getting better since 4.85 (minus the useless additions made by our previous mod overlord that had already been done).
The work Cannon has done is great, from a Freelancer standpoint, and people like Aet have cleaned up the place a lot.
Anyone complaining about development in general as the children are doing today obviously has nothing better to do, or are so nitpicky that the devteam can afford to ignore their opinion; as they have more than likely done for years now.
The only thing I have to say here is in regard to the Slaver ID "debacle".
In my humble opinion as a long time 'Slaver player', Either the Slaver ID should be brought back, or the Freelancer ID should be granted the ability to use the Pilgrim Liner.
As for where "Why not use the Pirate ID" was said...well, for example, my Slaver RP doesn't include being instantly identifiable as a criminal inside of House space.
Right now I mean...I make due with a Junker ID and IFF, but not everyone who plays a Slaver wants to be affiliated with the Junkers, or with pirates. It's a change I've made so that I can continue to play my character in a relatively sensible way..but like my above point states: Not every Slaver player is affiliated with a criminal organization, for instance, originally my Slaver's operation was a largely independent undertaking, which is why a Freelancer ID and IFF made the most sense...but that's not possible now.
As such, I think it could be considered reasonable to either bring back the Slaver ID, and the unique aspect it had (Distinct ability to demand human cargo), or at least add the Pilgrim to the Freelancer ID.
(Whoops, I lied!:crazy:I'm also going to say this stuff down here -----v)
Aaaaaanyways, insulting the time that the members of the devteam put into this mod isn't really very tasteful, since these people contributing their OWN TIME, into trying to make this mod appealing to the wider audience here. They aren't getting paid, they aren't getting rewarded, and they have to deal with people constantly insulting them or putting them down, for doing things they thought were necessary.
Sure they may not be perfect, sure they may do things that make people angry, but without them, where would we be?
Without continued work on this mod, and the story, this community would have fallen apart a long, long time ago.
I don't really plan on lingering in this here thread, and I avoided it earlier, but I figured I might as well contribute something, so there it is.
Can't say I'm quite as up-in-arms about the development method as some others are, but I would appreciate more transparency and community input on what is implemented/changed. AD does a great job with his Dev Diary, but I largely feel like people are making decisions for me, regardless of how I feel about it. Adding something as simple as a community poll for large issues would go a long way in reducing player grievances.

Calling someone names isnt a constructive way of disagreeing with someone - nor is demeaning their maturity.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Anyway.
I've made my position clear from CR - we would have preferred the Zephyr, but will make do with what we have - however, what we have does need to be changed. The Kronos needs some work - I'm waiting until (if\when) CR| becomes official, at which point I'll talk with the dev's about some changes to the Kronos - because, let me say its a beautiful ship, it just needs some tweaks to fit CR| rp better.
As for the dev's themselves - I don't think anyone posting in this thread is unappreciative of the work they do - we just want that work to produce different results.
A furniture maker can labor a week straight on the most beautiful chair ever made - but if it doesnt fit the ass of the man whose paying for it, then it was a waste of time, wasn't it?
There are broadly two ways to develop...well, anything. You can either sit in an ivory tower and develop in isolation, gathering only select opinions...or you can develop after gathering the opinion of the base you're going to distribute the product to.
Both ways have problems. Ivory Tower is what the disco devs did for most of .85...and it led to quite a few glaring oversights. When opinions about development are limited to members of the dev team, quite a few of which have limited connection with the player base...Anyways.
Listening to all of the opinions is also faulty. If you sit around and listen to everyone's opinion on anything...guess what, nothing will ever get done. There won't be time for it. The middle way is usually best. Take opinions from faction leaders and admins and the like, who can usually give an accurate assessment of each faction's problems, and then go from there. This is what the devs seem to be trying right now, and I hope they'll continue in this vein.
No specific comment on the ID issues raised in the first post.

A more-universally applicable fix would be to swap the Pilgrim Liner and Bret Luxury Liner cargo sizes. Keep the CMs where they are. This lets freelancers use it, but makes it difficult to defend against piracy, and cant be used with cloaks. It also makes the Bret Luxury Liner unusable by pirates, which was always ridiculous given the RP nature of the ship.
