And yeah. Because piracy has become more difficult, unlawfuls' activity is more or less "Go out and hunt lawfuls" now. Although I don't really mind that, I find hunting down a pirate as a cop much more fun than just running into a bunch of non-pirating pirates looking for a fight.
In my opinion, a way to solve this is:
Nerf the general hull amount of transports -20,000 to 40,000 hull from each.
Double the profit of all commodities: high risk, high profit.
Reduce the damage output of transport turrets; people like, for example Jayce, should only be killing snubs in a transport because they know how to.
Nerf NPC patrols. They're still a big problem, especially the irritating gunboats. NPCs should be doing no damage, we need a more easy environment for pirates than we do now.
Nerf Jump Gate hull and shield damage to virtually zero. If there's a place that has a jump gate, most likely it means the trader could ask for a cruiser escort to help him get past the pirate cruiser blocking the gate.
I haven't had overly much trouble pirating in and around Kyushu/Tau 23/Shikoku recently. Granted, some of it was in a (rather large) group, but even while solo I feel like it's semi-doable.
I can't speak for anywhere else, though, and it does feel a lot more difficult than it used to be.
Even some notorious traders agree that it's too easy to escape to the nearest base as a transport. The most obvious and in my opinion realistic way to fix this is to decrease transport thrust speeds (rather than armor or the power of their turrets), at least back to .86 levels.
Consider that the aforementioned 15k take only 100 seconds to thrust. Additionally, all other combat aspects suffer slightly at lower thrust speeds. It adds up to quite a difference.
I'm really not sure why they got that buff in the first place, to be honest. I don't think many people were arguing that transports had it too hard to reach the nearest base in .86, yet they got a speed buff and a turret buff (of sorts).
Small transports meanwhile are a different matter entirely. They outthrust gunboats and are generally unstoppable, but I'm okay with that
Edit: Incidentally, they're also easily the best ship class to pirate in.
I want to be able to pirate in my bomber again, I hate it now, the guns are buffed, Novas don't even damage sometimes when they hit, can't get into EMP range without my hull being eaten by ridiculously powerful TRANSPORT guns.
Gunboats are too slow, and no fun to pirate in, destroyers pretty much the same.
Traders won't pay 20 million on 5K of ore (worth 50), 2 minutes from the sell point, they won't pay because they know they can fly 20K to the nearest base and dock, after taking 10 Novas, a few SNACs etc.
It's because so many of them keep going
"Hurr, you can kill me then I can respawn and keep trading".
It's really upsetting :/. Would be good if we can make it so that trade ships that die in a system are banned from being in there.
Uh, I use a Waran with a CD, SNAC and Nova, and I have no trouble completely wiping out traders when they need shooting. I don't see the problem. Expecially since a lot of them use no armour for cargo space. I just can't even see why people complain, I utterly wipe the floor with them with no problem, and I'm not super skilled or anything.
Yesterday I asked for 20 million, on 70 million worth of ore, on the gate in system sell point (2 ships), they never paid.
A few days prior, I ask for 25 million on 50 million worth of ore, right at the sell point (literally 20k away on lane), never paid and told to me "//that is an absurd amount, I only pay 5 million".
I killed them all.
Oh and regarding the BS Scanner, yesterday I was gate pirating, and a player stopped mid lane at 20K (I know this because I have a spyglass), turned around and used JH.... :| annoying, but I like these scanners, works both ways, if you're pirating on a lane, you see the trader sooner, often at the station before they even enter the lane, and most traders don't use them, so I can see them, and they can't see me.
How did I get the money for this scanner? Mining ore... lol
