I think the scanners should be reworked. There should be more choices for the scanner setup. I don't know, maybe it is technically possible.

First, an cargo scanner should only allow to scan ships without to detect them.
The secound type of scanner is the radar whitch detects all ships in its range.
Third type, is the deep space scanner whitch allows you to have a clear sight in nebular, even with interferences.
Maybe there could be an fourth type of scanner which allows to detect cloaked ships.
And there could be many kinds of those types all with different ranges.

Light fighters have 1 scanner HP
Fighter, frighters, trains and gunboards have 2 scanner HP's
And capital ships have 3.

And it doesn't makes sense to mount an battleship scanner on a gunboard becouse its a battleship scanner and not a gunboard scanner. ^^

Took bloody forever to get it working like it is now.

Leave as is.

The route that devs seem to go is the wrong one.
Why is the first reaction always: "Limit it! Limit it! Limit it!!!"

This game needs less limitation, and more cool perks and money sinks. Scanners can be that.
Different scanner, for different tasks with slight advantages over the cheap normal equipment for exorbitant prices... that's the way to go.

Restriction is hated by everybody, especially if the restriction is not even about gameplay balancing but done to keep the name "Battleship scanner". Gameplay being forced to keep an infocard intact that says "only BS can mount BS scanners?" Hello?!

Gameplay > Infocard!
Cool stuff > Nerfs+Restricion

This. And add more scanner types.

So? That doesn't make it any better.
Considering there was general community backlash when it was announced that the devs took this into consideration, why did you not just quit the development of the new plugin that we have now whilst you were ahead? It doesn't make any sense.

I was tasked to rewrite the shipcompat plugin in order to properly implement scanners as they were intended.

I did my job as a member of the development team.

Now, I have a question. I have personally suffered a lot of excrement being flung at me and even more so being flung at my friends because we dared to have the balls to add a new mechanic, positivity being subjective, to the game. We don't get paid to do any of this. We get nothing out of it other than satisfaction that we're contributing to the game. Why the hell is this fair?

Should have expected it really, take it like a man. We have a saying in my country: Dogs bark while the bear calmly walks his path.

I understand that devs are frustrated at the feedback.

But: This was discussed in dozens of channels before. And I know you were in plenty of these discussions.

It cannot come as a surprise that people do not like it, after they gave the idea and concept a complete "no, we do not want it" verdict.

Then that goes for the community, too. We're doing stuff. Suck it up and keep walking or walk a different direction.

EDIT: I should point out that a notable member of the community who complains loudly about every other dev decision including ones regarding nerfs was more or less in favour of this right up until it was implemented using the technerf system.

If the fruits of your labour are only going to be vile and sour, then why bother planting the seed?

That's really not a good attitude to have Kaz, especially if you're a Dev.
You've basically given a big f*** you to the community.
