Hans Joachim here, reporting on last battle. Scramble alarm was heard at approximatively at 10pm. Captain von Szombathy leaded us to the ennemy. At 10:10pm, 2 gunboat class ships were detected on radar. Callsign were CPW-Moskva and Type, respectively Coalition and Hessian IFFed. At 10:15, escorts ships Omega-7 and Rhine from Kruger and Daumann came for assistance. Needless to say that without them we would have been fighting for a long time. Battle ended at 10:23 with the destruction of the two terrorists.

A message was coming through on the comm with no encryption. A slender man with shortly cropped hair and a thick red beard appeared on the screen. He had deep emerald green eyes, under furrowed brows.
"S. D. Grover, here. I hope this is reading okay, I don't have much time."
"I left home with a convoy of settlers bound for one of the border worlds toward Liberty space nearly two years ago. I had a deal with one of the captains to give me some flight time in return for accepting a lesser wage. Anyway, we never made it there. We were ambushed in the trade lane and they had half our group's shields down before we could blink. One ship was destroyed as it tried to fire up it's cruise engines. We jettisoned everything we had and they left us half adrift."
Grover sighed and his gaze hardened visibly.
"We managed to consolidate ourselves in the ships that were left and lip away with our lives, but we washed up on the nearest scrap of rock that turned up. Those of us able to work have taken positions with a small mining operation, but we're barely getting by. Most of the others seem happy with it, but I'm not content."
"I hear you might be interested in recruiting those of us that are willing to stand up against this sort of thing. I'd welcome the chance to help keep the system safe, if you'll have me. I do have some flight experience."
We are always looking for additional pilots to bolster our ranks. While your pilot experience is brief, we will run appropriate course for you and other cadets as soon as it is possible, aiming to proceed with on-duty training once you get the basics. You will report to the recruitment office to receive your uniform and assigment with ODF. We will make a soldier out of you yet.

Arriving at Stuttgart jump gate, I saw Hessian gunboat already engaged by our ships. Without hesitation, I flew my fighter to engage vessel before it could harm any civilian traffic bound through the gate. Crude loadout with additionals of some heavy weapons would be considerable threat to a transport but our snubcraft made a short job of it. Commanding Officer Hauptmann Szombathy enlisted assistance of a freelancer on site, who has been since paid accordingly for his service.
Worth noting, gunboat suffered cataclysmic secondary explosions before repair systems kicked in, sealing fate of this ship.
For your own luck, you are in. Report to the office next morning to receive your uniform. I hope that once your duty begins, you will communicate in way fully comprehensively especially when dealing with non-Rheinlanders. From now on every new recruit who decides to butcher either English or German language, will be denied on basis of incapability to communicate properly.
Understood Sir! I'll make sure it wont Happen Again...

"Kadett Grover, reporting. On patrol in Omega-7, I encountered a Rheinland Military vessel designation "Joker." He informed me of some areas that he felt might be vulnerable to pirate incursion where there had been threat to lawful mining operations in recent weeks."
"When the areas in question were confirmed clear, Joker indicated his intention to travel to Omega-3. I was curious about running some tests on the effects of the radiation from that sector on my equipment, so I continued accompanying him.
While in Omega-3, we encountered a pair of miners. We hailed and they assured us all was well when we caught sight of a large Order vessel bearing down on us. It hailed as friendly, and the miners suggested it was there for their protection. He then reminded me that I was out of my jurisdiction. I assured him that I was only there as a friendly, to run my diagnostics. We parted ways peacefully and headed back to Stuttgart."
*Another day on Bonn Station was upon Michael. Seemingly the same as the day before; waking up, making a coffee and having a breakfast, and than jumping into the old and underequipped Roc class bomber, that he purchased of the spaceship scrapyard on Stuttgart Planet and named her Hilda four years ago; but the future obviously had something different set up in place for him.*
*The mission was as the day before, clearing the Rheinland space of any criminal that happened to be flying around. Even though mission was simple some days brought no work and no payment. After two days of being on dry land luck finally turned sides. The flight path took him to the Stuttgart system where a tip from an old friend lead him to the bartender on the Stuttgart planet. He has supposedly seen one of the more or less famous smugglers making a deal in the bar. Michael know that catching a perpetrator in the act and sending him to the prison would provide him with enough credits to keep him going until the next crook, swindler, smuggler or worse crosses his path.*
*The act of exchanging smuggled goods from Stuttgart planet was to take place in Westnebel nebula and Michalel was already on the way there. He was already thinking of the riches he would be swimming in once he completed his mission, or so he imagined, but something new happened this time. Two vessels of Omega Defense Flotilla, one a light bomber and the other a very heavy bomber, were engaged in fight with Hessian gunship. He thought of passing by and continuing towards his objective but decided to stop and help for the greater good. While they looked they have their matters under control and would take out the gunship sooner rather than later Michael offered the help of his gun in exchange not for credits but for some spare parts for his precious Hilda. The officers promised that in exchange for help their quartermaster could provide him with a few spare parts and thus Michael joined the fight.*
*Fight was intense, gun's fire blazing everywhere and no time to think through the actions taken, it was all automatic and reflexes usage. After some 10 minutes the fight was over and all that was left of the Hessian was escape pods that were hauled to planet Stuttgart by Polizei for detention and imprisonment. Omega Defense Flotilla officers thanked Michael for the assistance non the less, even thought they would have defeated the enemy by them self. They offered to take him to Battleship Karlsruhe where he would receive the several hardware parts by the quartermaster. On the way they asked Michael why is he wasting his life working as a hired gun instead becoming a part of something bigger. Michael was without answer and wondered about that him self. They reminded him that taking the Military is about something more than being a gun for hire, it's about protecting the whole homeland. Michael never thought about taking the oath, it was something new for him. But times change and so do people.*
*The following morning Michael, wearing civilian clothes, walks into Omega Defense Flotilla, a Rheinland Military division specialized in protecting Rheinland Omega systems, recruitment center.*
*He walked towards the reception desk and addressed the recruitment personnel.*
''Good day,
My name is Michael Schweiger and I was told that this is the right place to submit the recruitment papers for Omega Defense Flotilla. Could you please direct me towards your superiors that requested a meeting with me for evaluation?''
*The person at the recruitment desk pointed to the office door not far and said that Michael is already awaited inside.*
*While walking towards the meeting room Michael thought about what would happen inside and how would his future be determined in the next few moments.*
*Knock, knock, knock*
''Come in.''
*Michael walked into the room, saluted the officer and stood still.''
''Sit down civilian or future kadet, it will be decided soon. Tell me what I want to hear.''
*After some thinking, words started flowing.*
My name is Michael Schweiger. I was born on planet Stuttgart on July 12. 795 A.S as the third child of my mother Adelheid Schweiger, the pediatrician, and my father Dietrich Schweiger, the engineer on the planetary shipyards. I have one older, one younger brother, one older sister and one younger sister. I finished the high school, mechanical course, hoping that one day it will lead me to space, and it did. With twenty one years old I finished basic training for spacecrafts and with twenty two I bought my first ship, the Roc class bomber, on planetary spaceship scrapyard using some of my money earned during the previous years as wage earner doing hard jobs and some of my borrowed parents money. I refitted it and named it Hilda, after my...The same year...''
''Hold on son. You said something about your ship name. What's with that?''
''Well sir, you see that is a long story but to put it short it is a name of the only woman I loved and never had enough strength to come to her and tell her that. Frankly said, that is the biggest mistake I have made so far.''
''I see. Love. The unreturned love. That is a hard one. I'm not the best person to consult on that matter but I think you should give her a call.''
''Yes, sir. I might just do that... Today... But to continue where I stopped. The same year I started doing jobs as a mercenary or gun for hire for any lawful agency willing to pay to get the job done. And so four years have passed by in the blink of an eye. Looking backwards now I feel like I haven't left a single trace in time during my brief existence. Everyday was like the day before, looking for targets whether they were marked criminals, smugglers or something third or fourth... Safe to say it's been a life not worth mentioning by any specifics up until yesterday when I met a pair of your officers which reminded me of what it's like to be a ''Rheinlander''. It was like they shook me and brought me back from the brink of the edge. The edge which if you cross there is no coming back. I thought this is it, I will not waste my life any longer, not a single second on meaningless and trivial jobs. From that point on I knew what I had to do, I knew that things won't be done by them self. One has to act in order to make good things happen for them self and I wasn't about to wait any longer. That is why you are looking at me today and not some criminal horde at the end of the gun point looking for revenge.''
''That's a good story sun. I'll forward your papers higher up, I might even give a few good words but the final say is not up to me. Just keep your fingers crossed and we might see each other again... both in uniforms.''
''Thank you sir, I'll be awaiting the commission response and I hope I come here again...''
*Michael saluted the officer and exited the room. On the way home he thought nothing else but whether he would be accepted by the Omega Defense Flotilla and if he would what would be the next step.*
