you would HATE that cockpit in an asteroid field... it requires you to know your ships dimensions very well - or you ll bumb against rocks left and right all the time.
well, yes - the textures.... i just slapped something over it, haven t really looked for details - but its more about the fact if the Whale with the stats i mentioned at the start would be more appropriate or not.
cause if thats the way the whale as a ship would go - it affects plans to model a replacement of course. - if the stats stay the way they are..... i would vote to increase its size significantly. - i m currently flying it, and its simply too small for its cargospace - even if its a characteristic of the ship - its too small.... half the size of a container transport.....
well with those stats it will have no defense whatsoever against pirates... a single inferno/supernova or even a few tizonas and a supernova shot would destroy it, no matter how big an armor upgrade it was using.
yea - but isn t that sort of the point of it? - it says that the whale is a ship that is not designed for unsecured deep space - and its only used for short distance deliveries. - since the whale has no CM and no noticable weapon - its dead meat against pirates anyway.
personally, i haven t got armour on mine, cause there is no point. - i cannot fight pirates and i can only run when they are heavily distracted. - could as well make it easier for pirates - after all, i safe 60 million compared to the adv. train and its "hard-to-CD" shape... but if a pirate in a bomber or a fighter wants to take out a train .... he will do so, even with armour upgrade 8. - just takes longer.
I just think with a junker attitude... we may not have a lot of enemies but everyone will exploit us if they get the chance, so I tend to prefer ships that have some defensive capabilities in addition to cargo space.
This is the info card that was re-written for the Whale, which I feel reflects the overall intent of design behind the vessel that we've taken for granted.
Quote:T-482-T "Kujira" Transport
The venerable "Whale" class of transport was designed under a construction philosophy based upon the conversation of scarce mineral resources. Originally designed in a more peaceful age with intent to transport refined H Fuel to the four houses; the Whale originally consisted of little more than refinery fuel cells mounted to engines and pumping stations.
As the centuries passed the overall design of the vessel slowly began to take on the graceful shapes associated with Zoner design ethos. Its cavernous holds now containing intricate multipurpose modules easily configured for transporting everything from the fuel born by its predecessor to the more material demands of today.
The ultra efficient transport vessel has received wide demand from modern day trading markets, rewarding the GMGs new business partners, Kishiro, an acclaimed addition to their shipbuilding queues, and Samura with a sore spot in its portfolio.
Agile, compact and containing one of the greatest cargo capacities in the Sirius sector within a deceptively sturdy hull the vessel nevertheless comes at a price. Virtually all defensive capabilities have been sacrificed to enable the luxuries afforded by the vessel leaving her eminently vulnerable to inter colonial piracy.
Producer: Kishiro, GMG
That being said, the vessel does not seem like a ship that evolved to serve the needs of an organization that developed shipping fuel.
I've never actually gotten to fly it on the server, but I like the Whale the way it is. I don't think it's unbalanced... There's an awful lot of people who prefer the Adv. Train just for that extra 300 cargo, and transport guns aren't useless when you have a bunch of them and are shooting at a fighter. The Whale is one of the few imports which I actually like, but by all means make a replacement model for it... But it should remain basically the same in size, shape, and maneuverability. Maybe a little bigger, but not much. Otherwise it becomes just another big transport, just with fewer guns. At the moment, it has its niche.
Sure, one could always just nerf the armor, but then again all transport shield should be nerfed a little... (the top three)
