If we are talking the current balance of power , Blodo. I agree. Right now , 3 VERY good bomber pilots can dospose of 5 Battleships. But I don't think that is very reailistic. Even if the battleships are supposed to be used in a fleet / armada. They should represent the beating heard of that fleet , not die 30 seconds after the battle has started. Also , a force of 5 Battleships should strike atleast fear in the enemies. It is not possible for a brick wall of so much fire-power to die due to 5 lowcosting craft. The Bombers should be shreded to pieces by so many battleships.

The reason the Order assignes missions to Osirises that fly alone is that they are not expecting to end up in a fight due to there cloaks.

It's more of a gameplay reason that "logical" reason.

If 5 battleships > any other 5 ships.... then why should anyone fly anything else? - as I already said.
I also mentioned that money is basically not an issue in disco.

Also whole freelancer combat style is basically something between WWI and WWII. I know that analogies don't work much... but 5 BS without any other escort would die both to bombers and submarines... or even a group of skilled/lucky destroyers in dark or fog.
If we move on to more modern times.... Carrier or Cruiser groups can still die to bomber or submarine groups quite easily.

That flak guns look awesome! Great work gentlemen.

Don't forget about cruisers. Their primary role by definition is long range raiders and protectors of the fleet.

A question to all bomber lovers: If you have a task to design a cruiser or a battleship and then fly it into the enemy territory, how would you equip it? With bomber bays? *Cough*

That's exactly why aircraft carriers are the biggest baddest mofos on the seas right now. Bombers/fighters just do the job better than sending in big ships to do the fighting themselves.

The flack effects in that video are amazing...But, given that Battleships aren't supposed to be antifighter craft in the current balance of power, perhaps, and this has probably been suggested before, perhaps the flack guns shouldn't be made for the battleships? Perhaps they should be made to be mounted on the antifighter caps, only.

Flaks are anti-fighter, but you can hardly attack a fighter with it - it is a purely defensive weapon. Anti-fighter ships have equipment better-suited for the task of attacking fighters.

Just putting in my logical two cents here

(this ties in with your analogy of WWII naval combat)

make flak guns a screen against strike craft, available for larger capital ships, but also make it so that bomber torpedoes can *just* out range the reach of flak so that bombers can still stand a chance against flak screens, they just have to be darned careful.

Another idea that might be a possibility due to flak's obvious splash damage, is implementing an idea i heard from freespace 2 (volition inc.), where their space-ship version of flak was invented for the sole purpose of shooting down incoming bombs and torpedoes, and the fact that it shredded strike craft was something they realized later on.

Well, the most potent anti-cap weapons aren't missles, but indestructable projectiles. They can't be shot down.

Well can't wait to try out the Flak weapons in 4.85, would make fleet/cap fighting more interesting.
