Mh, I've never encountered this problem before, though I know texture related issues from other games. Solutions for that were usually along the lines of:
- Run installer as administrator
- Make sure there is enough RAM available when running the game.
- Reinstall GPU driver.
- Run the game as administrator.
- Run the game in compatibility mode (Windows XP Service Pack 3 seems to work fine for most older games)
Nobody else has this issue? If you do, speak up. Solutions are also welcome.
Same problem here. I have a pair of R9 290's but the second one is usually disabled.
I've noticed the following issues:
- Vanilla ships and stations have worse quality on some of their textures.
- Discovery ships and station modules (mostly in Gallia) tend to be mostly/partially white. For example, Massdriver's models are almost fully white. Sutinga looks normal. Valor is partially white.
- Prior to installing Swag Pack, planets had lower texture quality. After installing it some of them turned into uniformly colored spheres with no textures.
- Star spheres have much lower quality.
- Planetside textures are worse.
- Cayman has a fully white starsphere. Interestingly, Shadowhaven has almost no texture issues.
- Navmap has a blurry background.
- A load of input lag and no way to turn off V-Sync.
There were some threads about this problem and every time, the GPU used is R9 290(x).
R9 280(x) shouldn't be affected, as it's a renamed 7970.
R9 270(x) might be affected as it is of the same generation as 290.
Reinstalling or updating drivers didn't work.
Running as administrator or in compatibility mode didn't work.
If I move the display cable to the integrated GPU (again AMD) all issues are gone. So reinstalling the game won't help either.
This is going to work for me until I need to change the CPU. If I still want to play FL by then, I'll have to buy some cheap PC for that purpose.
No issues on A10-7850K integrated GPU and R9 260x, will be testing on R9 290 around friday (PSU on test rig didn't have enough juice). One thing I did find is texture issues when anti-alias is forced on Freelancer in Catalyst driver settings, not on 7850K but on 260x.

Unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue you are having even with R9 290, just tried and specifically looked at hessian capital ship (which you have shown as sample where bug occurs) it is fine.
I had the same texture issues, I was wondering if someone changed the design of my beloved colonial vhf but then I found out there was a problem with my graphic settings. You have to go to your 'nvidia control center' at least it's named this way here, something like a command center where you set the settings for your graphics. Did you played around there?
It was weeks ago I had this issue, I've just set all back to standards in my graphic card driver and it worked fine

The version of the AMD driver installed on my PC is precisely the same. I tried using the same settings in Catalyst without any luck.
The only difference is that I'm using Windows 7. Maybe using Windows 8 solves the issue.
