No, though I think most community members have become so detatched from the reality of games and what is considered as 'good progress'. Spending DAYS on end, entire days doing something that is not fun whether it be trading, mining, forumlancing or just simply waiting in order to find out if another part of the mod is actually any fun or not.
It's absurd.
The vanilla campaign can be completed in under six hours. Yet here we are stretching the game to unfathomable lengths that it was never designed for. It is a fantastic and tedious thing, and a process that can't be managed by simply nuking every situation with the theory of 'more'.
More rules, more money, more time, more paperwork, more balance, more content, more commands, more RP, more of just about anything you can imagine. If the admins truly want 'balance' then the concept of 'less' and cutting losses has to be taken into account. If it means axeing half of the omicrons due inactivity or freeing up some of the restrictions to allow for some more variance in gameplay.
"More" is entirely the reason I'm here. Personally I like the fact that something so simple and half-finished as Vanilla Freelancer was turned into an intriguing, semi-organic world of politics and factions.
If half of the server was axed or the RP standards of the server were lowered, I'd quit immediately.
If you were designing a game for yourself. Your ideal game that would have all the best bits about a game you find fun; would you be grinding for points in it?
Freelancer was made by Microsoft, not the Discovery Staff. The Developer team does the best they can do in making things more interesting and enjoyable than the normal version. That's the whole point of a mod. We can't really chance the entire concept which Microsoft made though.
In regards to this being a Roleplay server: If you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to play here. Convoluted? Perhaps. Some people find it a legitimately enjoyable experience though. Maybe not everyone. Other people host servers too. This merely happens to be the server in which the developers have always worked closely with. (Even being ran by the developers in the past)
I digress. I'm merely pointing out the requirements that need to be met in order to play this mod on the RP 24/7 server. The mod is alot harder to change than the parameters of gameplay set forth by the administration team. Being more and more specific about ruling on particular scenarios and themes only restricts gameplay opportunities for players and their characters.
In an environment in which things are run currently, do you think there is a better way in which things can be less specific, but keep the same type of story and organization ingame throughout the groups and houses (and who they are friendly and hostile with) at the same time?
For how the Roleplay ties into the forums here, there's a general agreement that this is perhaps an alright way. It's a bit late to turn around now.
If you have any suggestions however which legitimately would give an improvement to this specific server, we're always watching. It's not often people have an idea which would work, although sometimes community ideas do come in now and then. Suggest away.
I've never claimed to have an answer to the problems i'm pointing out, just merely that recent changes have seen them get worse. My only suggestion would be to reverse some of these changes as i'm sure the paper on the top of the pile is easier to find than one in the middle. I appreciate the people who make the effort to search for solutions to problems such as these are often the admin staff. Though answers aren't found for questions not asked.
I often wonder if problems like these are addressed in the development process of server administration and mod construction. It seems as though the only way is forward at times and there is little reference to occassions when the mod and server were doing better in some respects.
Correct me if i'm wrong as I don't know what is truly discussed and in what format.
We have a huge amount of people who point out problems. Nobody has answers on how to fix them though.
If you suggest is to reverse some of these changes, care to be a little more specific in which that you feel need to be addressed?
Problems like these are indeed addressed. We cater to the mass of players obviously. The people here in this community however have a really good ability to find any loophole that they can and exploit it, forcing us to lock it tight up so people can still enjoy themselves without another player ruining their time. It's not ideal. Although it seems to keep the majority of people happy compared to any alternative theory we have running around on how things should be run.
Be specific! Instead of letting things turn into a throwing match between a few members of the community, look at an issue from all sides. If you think you have a legitimate fix to improve conditions, forward it over to the Administration team. We'd be more than happy to discuss things with you if you're not aiming for some other motive.
