I also just found this on Leon Base while flying with Lurue
Refering to the two SS from earlier.
Seems like a major event written and waiting to happen.

Opinions....
personally, I'd be happy to do this. :cool:My only concern atm is if we have the motivation to get it rolling & keep it rolling...it's a huge bite to take, & would take alot of planning
Quote:To me, the hippie stereotype is exactly that...a stereotype, & is an excellent smokescreen for the faction.
I see this as the stereotype of the supports at Cambridge University. A lot of students would support the GF type movement, and I can see a lot of them as hippie types.
I think the Black Dragons (once we're back up and running - very soon now!!) will find a friendship with the Gaians very useful. You can count on our support.
Shoot, between the FA, Gaians, and Hogosha the Tau's are going to be an interesting area of Sirius to travel through.
@Ktayn: I see where you're coming from. When I hear the word hippie though, I'm personally conditioned to think of the stereotypical long hair peace sign waving, tie dyed shirt wearing, pie-eyed peacenick.
Those are my parents people & I love the stereotype, but I like to think that the people of the planets university would be as diverse as any real university:P
I like to imagine that the Gaians have all types (in that way, allowing me to be quickly accepting of others RP) My guy for example is less of a hippie stereotype & more of a biker militia stereotype that originally came from a Green Front funded fighter group.
I guess my point is that nature is a beuatiful & serene thing, but it's also very cruel & I try my best to balance the two aspects.
@pipboy sounds good! Making an effort to strentghen our ties to the AFA, it would be only natural for us to do the same w/ the Hogosha. Good luck w/ getting 'em off the ground:cool:& I'm sure Rdy would fully support a number of diplomatic runs.
Quote:the lore says that the original founders were academics at the CRI. the CRI was supposed to play a vital role in the exploration of gaia. - and while the CRI did the scientific works - it was disclosed that the bretonian goverment was selling out the planet to the more ruthless mega-cooperations like BMM.
now the gaians saw the results of the relentless exploitation done by BMM - seen from even lightyears away ( that means visible from far away systems even ) - the cloud that engulfs leeds and its surrounding systems partly. so the gaians took up a protesting state - that is ... those scientists that felt it to be their responsibility to stand up against it.
however - they were not many... and easily replacable. - a fact that caused them to take cover in the shroud of unlawfulness, cause the power of the cooperations had driven them into peril. - standing up against a cooperation like BMM won t be beneficial - furthermore, BMM has a lot of power to influence the goverment of bretonia - maybe even the primary influence... they fuel the war effords. - with them bretonia lives or dies... they control the trade of bretonia and the resources.
so - the gaians fled and took up shelter in the nebula in and prepared the islay base.
that was all the past...
the first gaians would not pirate anyone - they were terrorizing ( not to be mistaken with being terrorists ) - they were not after killing - but after disabling, interrupting and scaring. - traders were to leave their routes - hurting BMM indirectly ( they would not attack a BMM facility ) - liners or armoured transports owned by Orbital cruise and spa were attacked ( but not destroyed of course )
the gaians had to rely on a broad support of the more educated population of bretonia. - their cause was logical and good.... but times pass...and change.
the financial situation of the gaians got worse... in contrast to some other polictial groups, they have not enjoyed foundings from many. - so they started to pirate. - being academics though, they were not too successful. - but being an organized group, they attracted more of the "pirate" type. - so they gained more skilled pilots - but lost their cause at the same time.
today - most gaians are pirates - pirates that care little for the cause but more for their own good. - the true gaians are kind of helpless. - all their effords have not helped much - they have established contacts to the kusari ... but the support is minimal. - the gaians are poor, rather weak and unable to really reach their goal - ever.
BMM and the associated cooperations are too strong.
the gaians might revive themselves when they got back to their original cause. - but what was needed for that is an awakening. - especially in public perception. if it got public what bretonia did to the fauna of gaia - how badly ( if they actually treat gaia irresponsible and badly ) its treated ... it would fuel the gaians effords. - but without that.. they will become more and more "just another branch of lowlife pirates"
from an objective point of view - the original gaians are few. - they might feel helpless and frustrated.
the majority of the gaians are similar to the liberty rogues - a group of lowlifes that only bunch up, cause there s safety in numbers. -
ooc:
for the gaians, it would be beneficial - if the guards were the true gaians - working politicly for gaia. - and the normal gaians were just thugs who are basicly pirates without a cause.
Quote:I like to imagine that the Gaians have all types
I agree, though I imagine there are lots of tie dyed shirts around, heh. Though I also can imagine a lot of them like the Environmental Science students that I recall when I was going for Biology. Not necessarily 60s hippie, but along the same idea.
Anyway, I was thinking about how Islay might be constructed. Given the huge amount of nearby water and such, I think the Gaians might be using reusing things as much as possible. And the water plus surplus heat generated by the stuff keeping people alive? Multiple public saunas! What better way to build camaraderie?
I can imagine a lot of divisions though. There's probably a lot of people who join just to be "cool pirates like the Corsairs!". And that helps fund things. I see the Gaian movement as a whole being separated into various subgroups, with different methods and motives but the same overall goal. The NLH would be one, but there'd also be others - maybe a smaller group that only tried to bomb BMM offices or whatnot.
I like to think of them like students groups in the US in the 60's such as Students for a Democratic Society. They had thousands of members, and many more people on the fringes of the movement who had very different ideals from the national and ideological leaders of the movement in Chicago.
A buddy of mine that's not a gamer asked me about Fl'er last night, & I tried to descibe my humble little character & his corner of space & described it to him like 'Greenpeace picking a fight with the cops at a Grateful Dead show in Scotland & blaming it on a group of pickpocket hooligans that were at another show across town picking a fight with a totally seperate group of cops'
...I don't think I properly motivated him to become a gamer:mellow:
Anyway, @ Ktayn: you know I like imagining how the station works...you're gonna make me geek out.
I'm cool with saunas, but my character already manages the biggest one in Edin & named it the green hell:P
I figure the heat generated by the station would rise to the generator-connected network of circulation fans & vents on the celings, storing extra power while pushing the hot air into a large unpopulated artery encircling the station just below the surface. Since the station's natural state is a big cold rock inside an ice cloud, the hot air would cool while making a lap in the artery & would be kicked back into the populated areas as air conditioning. Plus, the place is massivley covered in plantlife, & they would act as air filters & oxygen generators.
(Incedently, I created the Green Hell so I could have a place to throw in my ideas on how the station runs without stepping on anyones RP that don't want anything to do with it...so, for the record, anytime I slip up & say 'Islay' or 'station' most of the time I really only mean the lowest levels of it where the complex is located.)
