Meh. I usually try to haggle with unlawfuls whenever I get pirated on my smuggler, and most times I manage to drop the price a bit or agree to abort the cash fee altogether for a small favour.
In fact (not counting the times I slammed into a planet after going AFK in a trade lane for a minute or two) I only really died twice in my trader. Once to a fairly bothered mercenary, and the other time to an ornery lowlife looking for an excuse to blow up a train. I also only ever got caught with contraband by a lawful once (which was Dusty during the one week that he had a Liberty GB of his own patrolling in California, damn him for ruining my record!), and I run contraband into Liberty a fair bit:P
How do I do it? Sometimes I pay off the unlawfuls to make a nice diversion, other times I just use an obscure route and dock on an obscure unlawful base, when avoiding detection is not an option.
The point is there's a lot of ways to maintain neutrality among unlawfuls, and going "my ID is junker, you can't pirate me" is definitely not one of them. Acting sly however can be...
' Wrote:.:J:. those guys are nice, they pay for pass without asking (most of them), and I know few junkers which do same... I personaly dont tax junkers if they are transporting junker-like (RP) stuff which is scrap metal, plutonium, parts of something etc. because we (RHA) are using their facilities. Rest must pay... junker isnt something special.

Hail good sir,
I'm flattered to hear some of my boys have been sticking to my etiquette.
As you see, I as the Director enforce a gentleman's rule.
I quote myself:
Quote:-Excerpt from the Etiquette- *Donate atleast $1.000.000 every time you come across a pirate.
We have a rather unfair position due to our neutrality with many of the pirate factions. Because of this, the pirates lose a lot of business. Let it be clear that we are all trying to earn a living, and for this reason you will donate the above mentioned sum to the pirate without hassle. They have friends and families to take care of too.
Should you find any of my boys not keeping up to this, report them to me and I will take care of it.
Signed,
Charles Monroe

@ elgatodiablo: Having both a Pirate vessel and several Junkers and Smugglers, I have a few things to say on the subject.
#1 ... on principle, the Black.Pearl does not pirate Junkers, Zoners or Smugglers ... so long as they're role playing as such.
#2 ... wouldn't pirating a Junker void docking rights on Yanagi, Rochester, Beaumont, Bornholm, etc? Think about it for a second. How can I take you seriously when you demand cargo from a Junker and then dock on Yanagi?
This is a reputation issue here ... my Junkers and Smugglers are more than happy to "donate" a portion of their earnings to our Junker allies. But you really cannot have it both ways. Sorry ... but if you're gonna pirate my Junkers (that is make demands, fire a CD and take my shields down ... especially prior to saying anything) and then I get to watch you dock on one of my bases as if you were a friendly? Um ... nope ... don't think so. I don't mind you asking politely and me joyfully giving ... but do NOT treat me like a common trader.
End of story.
@ Kambei: Yes ... we .:j:. are more than willing to donate. But like I mentioned above ... ask me like you'd ask a friend. You send a CD at me ... I better not see you docking on a Junker base. I've got two .:j:. characters ... but I've also got a couple independent Junkers. Show me respect and I'll be willing to give you a piece of the action. Treat me wrong ... just don't do it.
We already had the matter multiple times. Junker being asked for a donation either pay it or (!) offer to make the next run to the according pirate base with goods the base needs badly (!). This way you also make profit. It will also prove, if the pirate is loyal to his faction or selfish and uses the flagg as a cover just for being a pirate.

Right.

The Junker Tag, in combination with any of the possible IDs, smuggler or Junker, is NOT an excuse to avoid getting pirated.
This has nothing to do with people roleplaying as junkers, but people who actually run very legit trade runs as Junkers, and use the ID/Tag as a way to get out of being pirated.

Baltar, Elgato's post was directed at the Junkers doing runs like Boron Beryllium, or Diamond Niobium, not folks actually RPing Junkers. Junker ID and Junker tag, Smuggler ID and either no tag or pirate tag, and Zoner ID and Zoner tag all get special treatment from the Rogues, less of a mugging much more of a donation for the repair of Alcatraz's roof. (Tis an expensive mural of a pile of cash). Unless you're carrying Artifacts or legal goods the Rogues don't need. That will get you either robbed blind or blown up, regardless of your tag and ID.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
Yup ... I did read it. Read mine again. I'm attempting to clarify ... to make sure you're not just going after a Junker to be going after a Junker.
Quote:This has nothing to do with people roleplaying as junkers, but people who actually run very legit trade runs as Junkers, and use the ID/Tag as a way to get out of being pirated.
Well ... my Junker runs both legal goods and contraband. It depends on the destination. But even with contraband you run into crappy situations. Case in point ... a Junker moves Cardamine and Corsairs hit you ... same Junker moves Artifacts ... Outcast hit you.
I understand they don't want their enemy getting rich or whatever ... but if I'm alternating between the two ... what's the problem. Junkers are friends of both. If a Junker gets hit by a Corsair for moving Cardamine ... that Corsair shouldn't be docking on Yanagi. Yes role play gets a bit complex at this point ... you gotta weigh the reputations and make a choice. But when that Corsair makes the decision to pirate the Junker carrying Cardamine ... he better not be docking on a Junker base for a while.
And just because you see my Junker carrying legal goods on one leg of my journey doesn't mean I'm trying to hide behind the Junker IFF and ID. Sometimes you gotta show up with legal goods to throw off the lawfuls. If all you ever carry is contraband you'll lose your rights to dock on lawful bases (ie: Manhattan which is pretty much the black market of Sirius). So don't attack a Junker simply because at that particular point and time he's carrying lawful stuff. Because his return trip will likely be carrying YOUR contraband. So again ... you need to pay attention to who you plan to target. If he's on the Diamond / Niobium run (non-stop) ... by all means tear the guy apart. But if he's moving Engine Components, MOX, Pharmaceuticals (lawful goods) and other such items to the Omicrons ... he's more than likely bringing that stuff for either Corsairs or Outcasts. And even Gold ... think about Tripoli ... yup ... Gold from Arranmore (Molly base in Dublin) to Tripoli (Corsair base in Omicron Gamma) ... he's probably helping the Corsairs and the Mollys at that point and time. Don't just look at their cargo ... examine their origin and destination.
what this really sounds like, is the fact we have some players who aren't RPing or RPing correctly. IMHO Baltar is totally correct. It's like taking one of my police characters and stopping a LPI officer who has liberty rouge pilots in his hold. He's a police character. I RP the fact he's taking the pirates to Ft. Bush or Manhatten or some other police base. I guess until we can MAKE everyone RP(well it's a RP server, this should be mandatory) we'll have these laws that wouldn't really fit if all the suspected parties do the right thing.
(I know that RP is mandatory, but i can guantee that Everyone who's been playing Disco for over a week, has ran into a Peep who was RP'n Horribly wrong, or not at all. For me it was 3 days in to my first character. PeeP had either a police or military ID and told me" pay 1 mil or die!")
' Wrote:#1 ... on principle, the Black.Pearl does not pirate Junkers, Zoners or Smugglers ... so long as they're role playing as such.
Here comes the question what is junker RP.
I always thought that junkers are generally not going far from their operating areas (system with base) and that they use small vessels so that they remain unnoticed while doing any kind of half-lawful activity.
Therefore junker groups in multiple Pirate trains hauling goods over half sirius != roleplaying as junker to me.
About a year ago there was a working junker faction here, flying a few collectors doing their business, mostly standing next to pirates and looting what was left of the trader if he didn't pay or simply asking him to drop say 100 units of his cargo. Looting things around and delivering small "packages" to major planets.
That imo was perfect junker RP.
Yes I don't roleplay junker myself, cause I don't think I could do it (for same reason I never applied to keepers cause I simply can't RP a Nomad properly).
Anyway junkers are getting the salvager which is meant exactly for what the name says.... salvaging. So supporting collectors in looting scrap metal or other things or even in occasional pirating. It is not meant for "Junker powertrading" but as of now I'm very sure it will be used for such things.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
Traders will try anything to avoid getting pirated... except change to a less populated route.
Hell I'll let any trader that actually RPs with me go for free... Yet so far not one has got that leniancy.
