If you really want to have fun don't take credits from anyone. Work your way up by killing npcs, small time trading, or mining in Colorado (Sell the silver at manhattan for quite a bit.) It's more fun that way, and more gratifying when you work your way up to a transport from a starflea.
If you're still in a starflea, mine copper in colorado, at D6, and take to pueblo station. It makes more money than mining silver, as the fields are only 17k away from the station, rather than selling silver at manhatten, which is 3 tradelanes and one jumpgate away.
Save your dough until you can buy a CSV from manhatten (186K). Buy some decent guns from the battleship norfolk in NY, and then pew-pew-pew xenos and sell them at deshima station in shikoku (NB, avoid gallileo in a starflea, the lane hacker NPCs will tear you apart).
Next, buy yourself an armoured transport wtih 500 cargo (forget where, Harris in T31 i think), and trade the berylium/boron route between Newark, NY and LD14, Leeds (avoiding magellan pays off in the end).
When you have 5m, buy a transport from pitsburgh (1000cargo), and trade trade trade until you have 12m. Then buy either a Mammoth (more manoeuvrability) or a percheron (more cargo). Keep trading until you have 40m, and buy a firefly or a pirate transport. alternatively, save up for a whale - but expect to get CD'd by EVERY npc on the server, as you have no CM.
Finally, start a separate character, buy a fighting ship, and do low-level missions around liberty so that you don't go mad by just trading.
And now some tips for the player interaction side of things:
Act like discovery is real life. This is the most important thing to keep in mind when role-playing.
Consider how other people will be affected by your actions. For example, taking on a lone light fighter in a capital ship would be unfair for the light fighter, who is probably going to try to get away from you and probably the system you are in anyway
Traders exist so pirates can make a living. It is unfair for the pirate (and arguably Out of Role-play) for the trader to refuse to pay because his/her cargo is worth less then the amount of money being demanded. If you meet a pirate, by all means try to escape, stall for time, offer to deliver the cargo to the pirate's base, pay them off, exc. Do not cruise away wordlessy, pirates hate that, and pirates are people too. (Doing so also tends to vaporize your ship and your cargo.)
Remember that the majority of the player base is dedicated to the unlawful side of things.
Never lose your cool. If you get mad because your cargo was destroyed, go outside or whatever it takes for you to cool off.
specially since npcs do some weird maneouvers(thanks to my 300 ping), wich makes then usually avoid my shot,s and sometimes makes me crash into them(wich has decresed considerably now that im using the kill engines thingy)
And I totally agree on making my way up, instead of getting credits from others ^^
id rather know where to make money, than get money for free ^^
but thanks for all the advice guys
if you have anything else to add , keep them coming ^^
EDIT:I know, I am a roleplayer ^^, altugh bow that you brought the cargo being vaporized thing up, a question
do you lose Sirius credicards if your ship is destroyed?
I'll tell ya how i got started, will cost you some credits but start trading passengers from manhattan to curocao in cortez system, nothing to bring back but it is a small quick route with hostiles that are not that powerful.
- Mine silver in colorao until you get enough money for rhino (something aroun 45k... max 20 minutes)
- once you have Rhino, mine silver once more time because you need money for first cargo
- now buy prisoners and sell them on New Berlin planet
- once you are in Berlin, be sure your eyes didint missed that giiiiiiiiant station looking like circle at the orbit
- ok now is time to buy diamonds and sell them on New Tokio, if you are using tradelnes instead of that crapy jumphole in NB system, you are in safe, NPCs here arent that bad (if they kill your tradelane, dont stop... fly around and dodge until TL isnt repaired and weeeee)
- on NT, buy niobium - sel it at the "Ring" station - yes it is that huuuuuuge rounded station next to planet NB
- do it few times until you have something around 500k for humpback.... once you have humpback, do the same until you havent 5 milions
- now you have 5 milions... time to buy your first real cargo ship, visit planet Pitsburg in NY and yay you are ready for doing something more interesting than diamond/niobium run (and more safe because large ship are permanently robedby pirates - players).
- ok now buy prisoners once again and sell tahm again at planet NB
- in NB system visit sector C3... there is junker station called Kreutzberg. Kreutz is the Mekka of almost all starting smuglers on disco... why? SMUGLER ID... buy one and fly back to station Ring.
- at the station Ring is another comodity interesting for you - COBALT
- buy cobalt and sell it at planet Honshu
- ok now is time to buy engine components and sell them at Malta
- On malta say hello to outcasts and buy their cardamine... now you have 3 choices what to do
1. sell it on NB and buy cobalt and do the same thing like before (most profitable)
2. sell cardi on Texas planet, buy slaves and sell them at malta (second most profitable)
3. sell your pills at Rochester station in NY, buy there some light weapons and sell them at malta (almost same profit as point 2 but it is much longer trip than previous 2 and more dangerous because you can meet samurais (KNF) in kusari, lolwuts (BH) between Shikoku and Colorado and finaly "halt r die" (LN, LNS, LSF, LPI and bilion indies) in Liberty.)
Id suggest following one of these trade routes people are giving, although i dont think smuggling would be the best idea, considering you will have to worry about Police AND pirate players....for RP its not a big deal, but for a first character trying to make money to get started, it would suck to lose a shipment or 3mil and so on. Id suggest making money and decking out a bomber or fighter on another character (type /help in game to learn about how to give cash to another character) for some faction just to give you something else to do, as that can only cost a 5-10mil, other than the hull armor upgrade but you can think about that later. Once you dont feel the rush to make money and get started, go for smuggling...it usually will get you lots of RP moments, and if it doesnt it will be the most profitable then.
Advanced starflie usage - do not mine, do not do missions - just check some wrecks until you get a codename weapon. Then try to sell it for 5 million. Then go to pittsburg and buy transport.
and smuggle Cardi-Cola instead
(there isn't any difference, smuggle cardi and RP as if you have a hold full of Cardi-Cola)
ill lend you credits and provid some protection, it's far more unique than ordinary cardi-smugglin'
(disinfector: thats a pretty hideous idea, there are already enough wreck-campers and if someone wants a codname from a flea, they just blow it to bits and loot it)
i think you should stick to coin's and cambei's suggestions
