You can dodge the filter by inserting self-terminating tags in between the letters. Just be wary to not overdo it.
Personally, the rule is stupid, and should probably only extend to ooRP at the most, and not at all at the least. We're all adults here, and those that aren't are pretty sure of the existance of the F-word.

We had Sindroms, who was an admin at the time, casually dropping the n-word in OFL chat. I seriously don't think people here are really that mature. Besides, adding swears to your RP doesn't make it any better. Great story-telling is possible without profanity.

Depends from case to case, but yeah, generally avoiding of exciting swearings is good tone everywhere. Depends from character tho, sometime it can be tool for coloring personage aswell. Secret ciphers for mighty coalition arpee.

Never said it wasn't. Just that it's not necessary. That and Maturity and knowledge are two different things. If someone's overusing it, give them a warning for it. If someone's being an Asshole, issue a sanction.
swearing isn't generally a good thing, even though we are all guilty of it (Aside from St. D.) so I suppose so long as it's within the confines of RP and not directed at anyone, and isn't excessive it's 'more acceptable' (Since we shouldn't really encourage it, but it's too late to stop it.)

Who isn't and I hope never will be again. Let's not use people doing obviously bad shit as stare decisis to do the aforementioned obviously bad shit ourselves.
In regards to the actual subject matter at hand I have no problem at all with swearing when it isn't directed towards someone, as above, or when used at all in a roleplay setting. This, however, is my opinion. Just as Victor's opinion is that it's generally bad.
It's kind of un-immersive and crippling for RP that a pirate transport can't say "give me your sh!t" to a trader.
Also that words like "ass" and "fuck" are auto-censored (at least they used to be, dunno if they are currently), because they're so common that it feels weird NOT for a hardass or wanna-be hardass character to use them.
Racial slurs aren't really missed so much because "race" isn't a theme in the Freelancer universe anyway, and there are very few science fiction universes (from which many players here are bound draw their inspiration) where 20th-21st century black/white or jew/muslim/christian divisions are a thing. If ethnicity or religion is a theme, it's mostly replaced by something like Cretards, Libertards, and Squids, which is fine because players won't feel insulted as RL people when they hear them. Except that 2009 Keeper who wrote me angry oorp pms about how nomads players are humans too and how dare I, when I commented on the fact that the transparency of a nomad ship makes it difficult to assess whether you're looking at the face or the ass of a nomad.
