Yes, I thought it was a long range gate, which was to go way past kusari and in the first test, the wormhole passed through the darkmatter clouds of galileo, which caused the darkmatter to come back through on the other side.
The question though.... if there is a disaster site on this side in texas, where is the other gate/site?

Two possibilities.
1. The other half was disassembled.
2. The gate only needed a structure on one side, I think this is more likely considering it was an advanced unit.
Also I believe jump holes are not a naturally occurring phenomenon, but a by product of all of the gates that are being built. After all if JH were readily findable and available then the first Liberty exploration ship wouldn't have needed months to move house to house.
They would have needed that time, since they didn't know where the holes were. Most holes are in dangerous nebulas or places, that exploreres prob wouldnt go to.

Most holes are in asteroid fields, really primarily dangerous due to pirate activity that wouldn't have existed back then.
Not to mention that there must be billions on billions of Jump Holes littering the space between the stars.
