I'm against this too. It will be abused. Each of my characters has worked for his/her rep and now we just want to make it easy? Takes the challenge out of the game.
Allow someone to /setrep Zoner, causing all of Sirius to be neutral to them, causing widespread abuse..
And hey, while we're at it, why not just give everyone guard status? After all, a guard is really meant to fly anywhere he/she wants, and not just guard their home systems, right?
And to top it all off, Nommie reps for all..
Sorry for the pessimistic attitude, but allowing people to set a rep with any faction they want can cause massive abuse and ooRP'ness...
I'm glad you see my point ...
' Wrote:If I could I would enforce players to use "locked" rep-templates where you only could get friendlier with neutrals or already freindly ones and get hostile with em as well of course, but where it was impossible to get hostiles neutral or friendly.
Now THAT ... is a great idea.
' Wrote:Hey, how about we start real discussion threads instead of sarcastic ones that encourage bad attitudes.
Hey ... how about you take me seriously. I've make comments in the "/droprep" discussions and get ignored and boo'd off stage. So ... don't want sarcasm ... then listen to what other people have to say and take them seriously.
' Wrote:Against it. People need to put some work into their characters. It's open to so many kinds of abuse I'm not even going to start describing them. Nice as it would be, the possible cons outweigh the pros.
Edit - Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was sarcasm =P
You have a great sense of sarcasm sir. I'm glad you see my point here.
I would like it if you could buy an ID and all your enemies would be set to hostile. Other factions would remain neutral - so you'd still have to work to get your relations sorted (a Junker would have to do missions / bribe outcasts to avoid being pirated by their npcs).
Prevents people from base camping / docking on the wrong bases, while still makes them mission/bribe for tags and making friends.

Yeah ... I've made this suggestion 2 or 3 times in the past ... one even in the "/droprep" discussions. Thanks for agreeing with me here though.
You know, I learned so much about the Bounty Hunter faction by getting my BHGC guard tagged, it was such a useful way to spend 4 hours, 4 hours in which, mind you, I typed not a single word of RP.
You know what I learned? I learned that if you take missions from Sheffield station, chose the ones in E4 or the Sheffield South Ice Field, they involve the minimum amount of time spent traveling in lanes.
I fail to see how those 4 hours I spent contributed in any way to the good of the server, me, or anyone else playing/not playing at that time.

I'm trying to take you seriously, I really am, I dont think sarcasm is meant to be taken seriously though, I think it is meant to be a joke. If it's not meant to be a joke then I think it counts as being patronizing. I like being sarcastic too but I try to restrain myself to only using it to be funny as it is not the best way to make a point IMO, cause it implies you think you are obviously correct and everyone else is obviously wrong. It doesnt really encourage the most productive discussion.

Ditto. Not sure why we should be "working" before we ever "start playing," essentially.

Yup ... and there's also the 2 to 3 weeks people refuse to role play while they power trade to get their BH BC's too. But oh well ... I guess its more important to get your rep, ship and equipment before you start role playing. So much for a pirate trying to role play with you BH guys just trying to get that ship.
Yes more sarcasm ... but sometimes you gotta go over the top to make a freaking point. Why? Because people don't listen when you make subtle remarks about things. Some people only respond to in-your-face tactics.

To be honest ... this thread was not meant as a "joke" ... its called examining the extreme case to wake people up to what is possible.
What starts out as something small will eventually become huge. Many years ago ... it was against the law to curse on television ... you couldn't show certain things either. But now ... we've let things creep up so slowly that we are unaware of what is happening until its too late. Don't let people pull the wool over your eyes. Otherwise you've got the junk TV we got today.
EDIT: Be very careful what you ask for ... you just might get it.

I'm going to have to concur. Except I did missions primarily from Deshima and Rostock. Because, of course, everyone knows that silently killing npcs is the best form of RP. Even better than trying to fix strange reps that require you to fly all over the sector, away from your zoi, and shoot ships belonging to people you don't have a problem with.
