OK, actually the founders day revolt was caused by one mans greed.
The head of the mining operations in dublin was a man named something graves (can't remember his first name) he and his cronies started skimming a percentage off the gold shipments to NL, then they pushed the miners even harder to try and cover the shortfall.
Eventually the miners had enough and revolted, they took two mining ships the glorious (yup the one quintane was on in SP) and another one whose name I can't remember and fled. They thought that once NL found out how they'd been treated that everything would be ok, instead NL sent in the military.
The glorious was destroyed, however the other mining ship took cover in the asteroid field now known as the molly's gold field and set a trap, a gunboat and it's fighter escort flew into the field and were destroyed (thats were the wreck Storm comes from).
They realised that NL didn't care about their welfare as long as they got the gold, so they decided to carve their own home from britonia. Since then the mollys have fought the BAF to a standstill.
As for the 80 years war, it was started and continued for that long by daumann, who wanted the rich gas deposits there.
The GMG won by using guerrilla tactics and luring rhienland forces into explosive gas areas (remember that the NPC capships don't have shields). The rhienland military had grave doubts about being able to fight or win the war but daumann used it's massive political influence to get it started, they then made a fortune in shipbuilding contracts and weapon development funding.
I wanted people to read the rumours themselves, oh well.
Alright, so I suppose that some things are already pretty well explained in the game. Thanks for explaining them, though. I have the the single-player campaign, and I do my best to get rumors from all the bases, but I just can't find them all.
But there are still a few things that I still believed aren't ever explained very well. I wasn't just talking about the Texas Incident and the Founder's Day Revolt; there are plenty of other things that have happened. There were a lot of revolts in each House that created certain pirate groups (I can't remember the exact names of them, though), and a few other events that have brought about revolutions. Like the 80 Years War. I would say that that's the event that I know the most about, because I spend a lot of time in Rheinland. But I'm confused about a few things there, too. I know that Rheinland was once an empire, and now it's a republic. Or, at least, that's what I think. But was this brought about from the 80 Years War, or from something else?
I guess this has kind of gone from a "Where can I find information" topic to a "Can you give me information" topic. Maybe I should just stop asking altogether and start looking around some more.
However, there is another thing that I find important, RP-wise. We know that the date is somewhere around the year 800 AS, but we don't know the exact date of any given day. Such knowledge would be helpful in roleplaying. Unless I'm wrong, and there already is a set date, I propose that we set 800 AS as, say, 2000 AD, so that when we want to give a date, it is based off of standard Earth-time, in present day. So, for example, today would be November 6, 806 AS. Just a thought that I'm throwing out there. I didn't really feel that it merited its own topic, though, so I'm posting it here.
Have you checked lancers reactor.com? There was some writers that wrote about everything in freelancer. They tried very logicly to piece together every event in the FL universe. They were called the Caravan of Five I believe.
Oh. Well, I have been checking Lancer's Reactor; I'm just having trouble finding anything on the site. I have trouble with the way that it's organized, but I'll check again.
As a completely unrelated side-note, I love semicolons.
;;;yay;;;
I like Zukeenee's timing idea. It would definitely help clear up timing in RP stories. Plus, then we could make RP stories that have already happened, as a backflash that explains something going on at the current time.
(BTW, on the subject of timing, the facility Luciaden was in, was at first around -1800 AS and then at around 730 AS when he reached the colonies [upcoming post tomorrow] Kinda off topic, but oh well.)
Hey guys, what is the accepted story about the fate of Earth? I've recently been shown a version of the openning movie where shortly after the sleeper ships leave the Sol system, the Nomads show up and blow up the sun, (it also shows a ship survived the holocaust and followed the colonists to sirius-probably to start the Order.)
Ok, as a big FL nerd, and reading almost every Infocard, news report and Rumor, I can Throw out some INfo and see if it helps any.
80 Year War with the GMG
As Rheinland was expanding north into Frankfurt and Kusari interests where expanding south, Rheinland fount that it was lacking in H-fuel and H-fuel products, Dauman and other Rheinland companys found that sigma-13, a short jump north of Franfurt was full of H-fuel, enough to fuel Rheinlands ever expanding house. The only problem was that Sigma-13 had already been claimed by the Gas Mining Guild(GMG), supplyed with ships and equipment from Kishiro, it was able to secure Mining operations in Sigma-13, and Sigma-19.
Rheinland, not wanting to depend on outsiders for its Fuel supplys, demanded that the GMG surrender the southern edges of the Crow Nebula in the Sigma-13 sector for Rheinland Mining operations, the GMG refused. Rheinland then anwsered by sending a Fleet to Sigma-13 Via the Berlin jumphole, There they where ambushed by a superior number of GMG fighters, out guned and out manned they where forced to withdraw.
Both sides took massive losses, and for years, Millitary patrols engaged GMG fighter patrols in the Crow Nebula. Long after, the Rheinland millitary made a second attempt at taking the system, another battle ensued In the Area where Hegoland station is now, and once again it was fought to a stalemate.
Secretly, Dauman industries built a Mining station in a remote area of southern Sigma-13, In hopes of strengthening its hold in the sector. Fustrated the Chanceller Ordered one last attack to attempt to take the system. Ordering several Cruisers and multiple Fighter wings to attack Gas Miner Naha, the command center of the GMG's Gas mining operations in the sector, the chanceller had hoped to end it swiftly before more ships where lost.
After Entering the system, they engaged and routed several GMG patrols, and pursued them, not nowing the area to well, the GMG patrols lead the Rheinlanders into a Hydrogen gas field, after several minutes the Rheinland ships exploded and spread there debris near the Honshu Jumphole, also with the nebulas shifting, Dauman was forced to abandon its base as another Hydrogen cloud enveloped there station.
Over the next few years a few millitary patrols entered the system, but after 80 years of failed attempts, the Chanceller ordered all Millitary forces back and the New Berlin --Sigma-13 JH off limits.
After working out a contract with the GMG, ALG waste disposile was allowed to build Hegoland, and begin recovery of Millitary personal entombed inside there ships in Sigma-13
