Just as a little note so people can at least keep the discussion based on facts and not their personal interpretation of how a blue bar on their screen refills:
Pre-5.0 Heavy Battleship Shield, corrected for armor removal (divided by 2.5):
Capacity: 260000
Recharge: 2600
5.0 Heavy Battleship Shield:
Capacity: 624000 (+140%)
Recharge: 3900 (+50%)
This is after cap shields were nerfed in one of the post-5.0 hotfixes, so the live numbers. The reason these evidently massive shield buffs are interpreted as a nerf by some people is because proportionally capacity got a larger increase so the bar moves slower as your shield recharges. That is literally it.
Battleships aren't done. Changes are planned for them that require time. Reducing the scaling of their mass from light to heavy battleships might serve as a short term improvement. Their secondaries also will need review for "5.1" so that'll also inevitably be done.
Oh, and these buffed shields are also of course further warping players' perception of things like powercores as you now have to spend much more of your core fighting a faster-regenerating, much stronger shield.

Still not sufficent considering the MISSING thing of Battleships got nerfed in any way possible, having 2-3 guns to deplet your core completely is almost a laughable as possible, as you not matter how much shields you bring to the table, the shield amount isn't sufficent to suffice the inhability to just shoot with secondaries (that do almost no damage actually) compared to earlier, earlier i could even withstand against crusiers in missions with his spam of heavies and pulses, now i can barely take full core to just kill 1 or 2 ... rest wait more than 60 seconds to make another 2, the nerf even in the "Mass" you added to the battleships make no way to nearly impossible to just handle such things, and a core that is almost as big as a battlecrusier ... you seriously need some lessons about balancing, with even losing everything and making all ships flat not mattering why ... still can't understand how a Overlord could get same powercore as Bismarck that is twice as big or how some ships get bigger cores being actually smaller than the supposed "bigger ships" ...
Example:
Bretonia Battleship: Power Output: 120000/6271250 vs Bretonia Dreadnought (Aka Carrier): Power Output: 148500/5335000
Liberty Dreadnought: Power Output: 120000/6271250 vs Liberty Carrier: Power Output: 142500/5532000
Things get worse when seeing crusiers getting a core of 65K reload ... like AI Crusier, seeing how "HEAVY Gunboats" are getting smaller core "but has more recharge, still on the lower side" ...
Have you played Bretonia Gunboat recently? is HUGE, Heavy good Gunboat ... let's compare with Ashitaka KNF Gunboat for excellency, a gunboat really really smaller

While Gunships are mean lighter variant of a gunboat who kinda more "heavier" .... how a bigger ship get less powercore and a ridiculously bump in recharge at difference of lighter counterparts which are supposed to be heavier in all aspects ...
I am sorry sir, but i don't know where is the head of the "Balance Team" when asking about keep changes small and better worked, because for me is a completely nerf just to unbalance what some ships had in the past, while taking benefits on factions that appear "follow the lore" of the Devs, i still can't belive how huge ships get smaller powercore than the bigger ones just for a tricky thing ...

Solaris, Mitraelluse, Gatlings were supposed the "Almost perfect Anti-snub turrets" the Secondaries to beat things like gunboats or annoying crusiers with a punch pack, Primaries for Crusiers and Up too ... but ... you forgot a thing
None of this works when the "Anti snub turrets" can't hit things or do too less damage for it, the "Secondaries when you shoot more than 2-3 your core get depleted doing no damage at all even against gunboats", the Primaries uses that much energy and some ships need the addition of 2 more for the sake of the size (Rheinland Battleship has only 4 Heavy, 4 Primaries) and is ridiculously huge, maybe add 2 more of a certain type to be equivalent to Valor having 6 Prims and 4 Heavies ... or Redemption being 6 Heavies and 4 Prims ...
But what varierity you wanna see when you lock techcells, you make it harder to even make something usable, and do changes without even asking the COMMUNITY that KEEPS the game active as a Project and love the game to even after 10 years straight and keep playing trying our best effort to keep community active, to keep things rolling, but when i see a huge ship with no power to even withstand well, is kinda annoying, if a battleship "with massive power" can't even beat an an ecounter with 2 gunboats then we have a real issue, for balance sake, change the battleships to how they were before 5.0, keep the shields and so, but i think the "missing thrusters and agility and unability to escape once engaged" should be rewarded with their old 7-9M power core and high reload in cores (for example the 630K/9M on Bismarck due the huge size) deserve some REAL LOVE, because isn't as easy kite with a Bismarck than kite with an Overlord (that if i remember right it has 500K/8M as medium battleship)
Ah, one more thing, make the damn Outcast ships a little bit taller, that sleeky thing have even more advantage than the APM Gunship/Destroyer in battle, really hard to hit in battle even with the fastest guns at medium distance

Imho I've been playing with a friend as indies in and out since about 2007. We've never had more fun in this game than now and we both feel like the game is at a very good spot balance wise between different ship classes. The only pet peeve I have is too slow turret rotation ( as a dread main) and systems removal.
Grateful for the devs for the work they do for free probably to keep this golden classic going albeit some questionable decisions in some recent events.
