Well, there sure are a few things in that trailer that look interesting.

The starspheres, of course, the cloud effects, the moving ship parts and, if you look at the part where the Defender is flying next to the Newark-like station: everything was scaled properly.
Also, it looks like you could really fly into the asteroid stations (you can see that where the pirate is docking) without further loading time, as in X Beyond the Frontier.

Still, the NPCs look way better now and many of these features would have made the game more of a simulation. Microsoft probably wanted a sci-fi-action-game which is why Freelancer became what it is.

It looks really cool, those navmaps, moving parts, clouds, something with guns...
They could make a new Freelancer just with those things and if graphic would be like on X or EVE,there would be no end to this game, but I am happy that we have this one. It's way cooler and better then any EVE or X.

Who knows, from what I can tell the game we are playing and the game in that trailer are two completely different games, they decided to completely redo the entire game some point after this. We just have the same models it seems.

I can safely say that there is not one character that made it from that trailer to the final release and remained the same, and only about two even made it into the game.

My observations lead me to believe cruise engines didn't exist, but you could upgrade your engines and buy some kinda booster packs that would mount on what are now mostly CM, Mine and rear turret mounts.

It also seems that they didn't have turrets, and our turrets are actually just CM models that they modified.

Damn, that looks real good. Looks definitely like the kind of game I've been always dreaming about. Music and everything really reminds me of Haegemonia though. A Haegemonia kind of game, first person, would just be awesome.

Shame they had to cut it up like they did.

Someone moddified the Defender so it can move its wings a bit . Its not possible more due to the guns mounted on the wings. The fellow on this channel has more videos of other ships like : Dragon, Valkyrie , Crusader.

It looks like he just linked the moving parts on the wings to the cargo door, if you look you can see the doors don't open.

If we could link them to docking...

All possible right now. The station bit would still require loading but it is possible to have proper station models to move around inside in.

It's not the movement that causes the issues for modders. It's the trigger. It seems that only a few Vanilla ships have the possibility of moving parts but it can be done to custom ones. The trigger though, is the issue.
The 'drop cargo' thing is a trigger.
As is cruise etc.

There's a mod out there that has done it and is available to download and play.

Yes, you can fly around with moving wings in the mod.

That's what I was referring to, if one could set the folding wings to the same trigger that activates the docking lights, or in the Valkyries case reverse it so they are always folded except when docking, you could have folding wings that are fully functional along there original lines.

EDIT: And from what I've seen of the Defenders wings, they do not have a single folding point, but several, in the promos each "step" of the wing folds into the larger one next to it.

Frankly the only thing that we're really missing out on is some of the stellar backdrops there had there. We -can- even do things like cause the wings to fold currently. If you can believe it the mechanism and ability is currently there, we just don't have it turned on.
