Also, they shouldn't really affect your game performance as the starsphere should be loaded when you jump in the system or undock.
The file of a starsphere is never bigger than 1mb anyways (at least the ones we have ingame, and the manipulated ones I did).
It's not some crazy rendering new graphics. It's just NICER, NEWER, more vibrant graphics and colors. You will not need better specs.
And you really don't seem to understand. "Graphics aren't important" Are you serious? It changes everything. Remember the time you just started playing Freelancer, and you would go into a system and look at it and go like 'Wow. Damn" and would be impatient to go to the next system to see how it looks and what it brings? Well now, all you think is this is crap, I've seen this, it's old. I don't know about you, that's quiet boring. No point of exploring any more, takes a lot of fun out of it. Revamping the graphics is a huge thing. Those moments will be back. You will enter a system and sit back and go like 'Damn. That is nice"
I started playing this game just because graphic was simple and my PC can run it nicely ( nicely on low details )
But i would like to see more details ... but wait for me to buy new PC:)

I started playing FL when I was 9. (in 2003) I loved it because:
A) I played StarLancer
B) The Gameplay.
I never cared about graphics, because they are why there barely is any plot in new games.
It's not about the graphics being ahead of gameplay.
It's about ENHANCING the game, giving you the OPTION of having it look nicer, you're just looking a gift horse in the mouth and shooting it, if people want to give you the option of improved graphics, take it, chances are, people doing it, aren't working on gameplay in the first place!
I personaly wouldn't mind a few nice textures here and there.
While better graphics could be nice, there are many other things that seem more important to work on first. At least most guns got a makeover this version (other than the poor Luger, of course).
Higher-resolution backgrounds would be great though, especially if they're being worked on. Updated base models would be pretty fancy, too.
I agree that Freelancer graphics could do with a make over. There is room for improvement. However, I think the Devs time would be far better spent on more important aspects of the mod. Aesthetics should be second to gameplay, always. And even then there are more important aesthetic improvements we could work on than this idea, such as adding missing base names in the NPC dialogue, making unique bases for different houses, and getting the lasts of the imports replaced.
