These gb's we currently have should be considered as a Heavy gunboats...the ship class that we need is something like the new BHG GS..light,agile and fast...made for taking light vessels such as bombers and fighters.
Making even more heavyer GB than is it now would be a nonsense, the ones we currently have are bit too easy target for caps and bombers,I couldn't imaginge how would bigger and heavyer gb bring succes to anyone.
My suggestion, make a 8.33 refire rate weapons for gb's,and increase gb's weapon range
Dont get me wrong..i dont posses any gb,but since 4.85 started,gb's look bit pathetic for anything else exept pirating
It's not a "heavy gunboat" it is a frigate, a ship that can take up fight against small cruisers if its lucky or be destroyed by an equally lucky GB captain.
(GS = gunboats with few turrets low hull and gb shield and with good turn rate are already massive weapons against bombers and light crafts)

Erm to be precise only 1 ship in 4.85 that can consider as a "light gb" or GS is Bounty Hunter gunship,if its succesful as you say,why not creating it for every other faction?
In terms of the ships themselves, gunships and gunboats are one and the same. Just a difference in the naming. Nothing else.
I don't think there needs to be "lighter" cruisers, as there are quite a few light cruisers to begin with. If they're not for pirating, then what would they be for? Killing gunboats? You can do that in cruisers.
Gunboats in general are good are effective at defeating fighters and bombers. Heavy gunboats just need to be flown differently than the light ones, that's all.
But i would like the big gap that is now between a Cruiser and a Gunboat to be filled with another kind of ship, like the frigate. More ships and more classes = more diversity and more fun.
