In RP no, but whilst Rheinland's jumpholes remain as awful as they have been made, I'm going to use them all day.

in sigmas - yes
in Rheinland - no

all Rheinland outlaws

in Rheinland and omegas - yes
in liberty - no, except if they have in groupe OC or LH player

etc. etc.

' Wrote:Role play wise, if this game were real life; no, pirates would avoid detection. Look at real life pirates, in the here and now: They appear around the trade lane long enough to capture a vessel, kill its crew, take whatever they can of value, then disappear again. That's real life pirating, they don't cruise up and down the trade lanes of our oceans when not attacking.

In real life ... traders would take the safest route to their destination. Look at real traders. Traders avoid "known" pirate infested routes.

Quote:Realistically, in game, you'll often find pirates in the trade lanes. Even if it were standard for pirates to not use them, there are many who only RP when convenient for them and ignore the rules otherwise. For example, I was fired upon in my Miner while docking at Planet Gran Canaria. I saw the Outcast there (I'm IMG in that character) but thought "it's ok, he's in the No Fire Zone." Not only did he fire at me in the NFZ, he didn't even RP an attack, nothing in chat at all about engaging. So expect the people who pirate to do whatever they wish as long as they can get away with it.

Realistically, in game, you'll often find traders using jump holes that take them close to pirate bases. I've seen them fly through Chugoku (next to the Blood Dragon's Kyoto Base) and through the Badlands to the Texas jump hole (next to the Liberty Rogue's Buffalo Base). Traders for the most part avoid role play until they've amassed the cash they need to get their mega-capship ... and then all a sudden they go role playing BHG hunting pirates. Give me a break man.

Quote:Me, I play my pirate as legit as possible, but I will admit to using a trade lane from time to time when moving to another area of the map; from New York to Coronado, for example. Otherwise I play like I imagined I should and don't use trade lanes. Especially not for local travel. If you think about it, the placement of Battleships along the trade lanes makes using them, by anything smaller than a gunboat, rather hazardous. I imagine that most pirates who use gunboats are being lazy this way as well, besides having a more secure feeling while pirating.

If we did not use trade lanes, the whole pirate role play would not exist. As many "traders" have mentioned ... it takes forever to fly in cruise between planets, bases, etc. Heck ... who wants to waste their time in cruising everywhere for nothing?

We're all supposed to be having fun here. And we're supposed to role play on a role play server. But all we get is people telling people HOW to role play. And everyone's telling pirates in particular how to do so. Its old people ... give it up. Admit it ... all you traders want is a free ride.

When i Use a tradelane as a pirate. i RP that theyre is some simple trick of some IFF change that even non-hackers can do, while i also limit this by not using the lanes in librety because theyve' changed theyre IFF scanners on the lanes.

so i reckon yes, it's not like the lanes have biometric scanners that tell if youre a pirate by scanning your uniform, and i don't think lawfulls have enough pirate ship info to make it cancel out pirate ships only. and many pirates use CTE and BW shiplines. i don;t think it would be hard to make decoy signals to fool the lane radar.

I think it depends on what faction it is the pirate belongs to. Lane Hackers, yes but Corsairs? In some systems, but otherwise no.

No, they should simply fly those 300k to get somewhere because RP is greater than everything else, including fun, on the server.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

For me, in RP I can use tradelanes. However, it is extremely dangerous to do so, because they lead from one lawful base to another. They are only used when absolutely neccesary, the same with Jump Gates. Only Jump gates are even more dangerous, because you never know what kind of massive ship will be on the other side.

' Wrote:inRP, no, I don't think any of them should. Not even Lane Hackers. Why? Technology evolves at an astounding rate. The speed of the average marketted CPU roughly doubles every 18 months. Sure, every now and then they may find an exploit, but exploits are often patched up within days, hours in many cases.
Actually you can pretty much hack anything you want, even today, the only problem is that you'll get traced and arrested almost definitely without question. Nothing is infallible, there are always ways to compromise a computer. The difference though is that in the real world we're hacking computers and servers that are in a secured location, trade lanes however sit in the middle of nowhere, like traffic lights or power lines or cell phone towers.

You could theoretically explain that trade lanes are too widespread, as a technology shared with every faction, to be considered extremely limited and protected. I would suggest that trade lanes should be considered no more limited than city streets our in our world. Even in London where CCTV reigns the streets are used by everyone including criminals.

Jump gates are a bit more uncertain, but again you could argue that they're just like a public trust.

If you've ever watched Stargate SG-1 you could just look at it that way. Everyone uses the stargate system, even good guys on bad guy planets.

Out of hibernation. Gauging the winds.
