My route doesn't usually run me into anyone.

We (Powermining, Inc) all have a miner and at least one escort. If trouble pops up someone can grab a fighter pretty fast.

Adding on this, we also have Boss in a ptrain, which scares/pays off most passing outcasts. Bwahaha!

Today, mining without an escort is suicidal. Now, the question is, how well do you pay your escorts? Comparedly to trading, you can give them a very good salary, one that they can live off from. Since I know my escorts personally, and I know they're reliable, I give them around 15 million credits per full run, and it's not even half my profits!

It's hardly suicidal, you've just gotta recognize where the most pirated zones are (Shikoku, The fields themselves and New Tokyo). Escorts don't Protect my cargo as I get blown sky high before they can do anything so I don't have any. I find it more fun to RP with pirates when it's just one on one. It makes for a more enjoyable experience because they don't feel threatened and you can actually have a conversation with them. I like to talk, not run like a fool (unless the situation allows it and then it's still a fully calculated decision).

I dont employ escorts, dun need to. I use the corperate one tht gets a share, or I get on good terms with pirates and buy the stolen ore:P

miners have 80 mill profit per run 5 systems away from penn (5000 cargo, that is). they can afford it.

Don't forget that at least two of those five systems are infested with pirates most of the day. So by the time you get to New Tokyo you make about half that.

If I could find four escorts, I'd pay them five million apiece to aid my miner. Also as much ore as they can carry in their fighters.
