Why would you fly a Repair ship with 50k shields when you're 100% sure you'll be a prime target in the battle? This is absurd, when you have to possibility to mount a shield two times stronger to sustain more damage.
1. The smaller shield recharges at exactly same speed as the bigger one and pops up faster after it was dropped . The latter is especially important for the repair ship, since killing it using anything else than SN takes forever and a bit more.
2. From my experiences shooting at repair ships in various battles I found it extremely hard to kill it or bring it down quickly and I didn't manage on 3 out of 4 occasion.
In 2 of those the Repair ship was circling a solaris/razor Osiris and it proved impossible to kill it for 3-4 fighters/bombers even with Infernos.
In the 3rd one it was being targeted by at least 5 fighters, yet we barely managed to keep the shield down and do any hull damage. After 20 mins and only some 200 bots lost on the repair ship the fight ended.
Yes it can't really shoot back while under fire, but that's not it's real purpose.
