Liners vs. Gunboats?

Back in the old days of the novaPG, i fended off 2 of their GB's in my prison liner, dont tell me it cant be done:)
propper setup allways does the trick, and ofcourse, knowing how to fly the liner.

Ah, my lovely prison ship. I fended off a large gunboat with my prison ship, a friend's freighter, and a very heavy fighter. This guy was tough too. If you have a liner, make sure to equip two gunboat missle turrets. They eviscerate anything that they hit.

I will say something alot will hate. My trader char when he got enough cash tried all the liner's and the luxury liner being the last before my container.Now i always buy the best armour/guns/sheilds i can afford,and on 3 separate occasions took on and beat 1 gb /1 gb and 1 cruiser.So the liner's with the right pilot and equipment can kill a GB,BUT vice versa is also true, both have pluses and minus's.

Well, an old, refurbished prison ship is more within my RP than a fancy luxury liner, even if the liner is more powerful. But thanks for everyone's answers.

It has 3 class-8 (gunboat) turrets and 6 class-7 (transport) turrets. And class-8 (gunboat) shields. The shields aren't anything special, since there are some freighters that can mount class-7 (transport) shields, and a number of other transport-class vessels that can mount class-8 shields. Other than the Liners, I don't know if any other transports (like the container or large train) can mount class-8 turrets.

Just take note, it means the Freigther has become a capship, and hence pirating rules don't apply.

They can still take your money. No matter what a Liner can be pirated, but if you have gunboat shield/weapons on it, you can also be pirated by cruisers + from what I am hearing..

And if I am not mistaken the reason it has a class 8 shield mount is not for putting GB shields on them but for putting the advanced transport shields that are also class 8.
