Creativity, intellectual, and physical copyright is a load of crap.

You can't call dibs on an idea, you make something great, fantastic, don't get huffy because it was good enough to inspire people to copy it.

Take praise from that instead.

When I see people being really annoying about this stuff, I tend to copy their stuff and add it to offenseve images.

And make sure their signature watermark remains.

Anyone who thinks other wise either isn't them self an artist or doesn't work around artists, or designers who make a living off of those. Seeing people say those are load of crap upsets me.

Now thats is getting off topic, but I agree most forum signatures are other peoples images that someone else borrowed, and in a not commercial fashion isn't a big deal. But don't get upset when someone does it to you. Because it really isn't a big deal.

Anyway, on Topic: I havent seen anyone who stole my Art. I know someone who completely makes his own Art (an Example is on my Profile) and Stuff appears every now and then at Youtube.

Select few who seem to think they're graphical gods. Newsflash, you're not. I can think of one graphical god and he doesn't do sigs. One of you (and since I don't want to use names, I won't say which) does decent work, the other is just blergh.

Besides you there's more people who do it, just weird. 'Don't steal MY style!' 'Don't copy MY render!'

Firstly I agree that there is no one here that is a Graphical god... I don't even think that it is possible to be a "god" in Graphics. There is no limit to the Graphical World. The Only "Limit" is yourself and your own creativity and ingenuity.

However. As an artist I'm sure I would get bothered if someone started stealing my own work without contacting me or crediting me. Why? Because I put my time and effort into making this. And ten to one I like it whether the rest of the world thinks the same or not. I myself am quite bothered when others rip artwork for use without credit. Now. I know I have no right to criticize people for doing it because I do it myself on occasion. But I do my best to use Stock art or Art that I've been given permission to use instead of ripping things. My backgrounds for my sigs are compilations of Free for use Stock images as opposed to HD wallpapers. Sure they don't look half as cool but they make me feel better. Plus they help me get better at making stuff. If all people ever do is Rip stuff, they're never going to get anywhere are they? So IMO you're only hurting yourself when you rip others' artwork all the time.

I agree that you cannot call dibs on an Idea. However, I'd think that calling dibs on a painting isn't too far fetched is it? because by saying This is Mine. You're putting emphasis on the fact that you made it. You invested Time and Effort, two things the world can't pay you back for, in this piece. You should be able to say "This is mine" and be able to back that up by law. Thusly discouraging other's from coming along and ripping it by saying "This is mine" about Your art. Now, about letting people modify or use it, let them come to you and ask nicely... I've only had one person turn me down when I asked permission to use their artwork on DeviantArt, and that was because they had a project in mind for the pieces in question.

I also don't believe anyone on the Earth has the right to say someone else isn't an Artist... Now saying something isn't Art is one thing (like putting paint on the top of a canvas and letting gravity paint... To me thats an interesting science experiment, not really art.) but every artist is unique. Every artist can improve or can change. We each have differing styles and that's that. I myself tend to stick to a certain style for a period of time until I feel like I'm just generating things in that style as opposed to creating. Then I move on to another style. Others don't do this. To say someone isn't an artist when they consider themselves one is not right. (Ok, after thinking a bit I guess it would be alright to consider someone who just rips art whole and says its his own can be considered not an artist...) But that's just me.

The fact that others here are popping out signatures and avatars like there's no tomorrow, with stuff used by others and seen so many times THEN going berserk about their stuff getting nicked is what made me raegwrite this thread.
