' Wrote:Well it isn't related to pirating it's related to blowing traders up. Because they rarely pay I am forced to kill them. I saw that Skyrim got fined for killing someone multiple times. Now I would get crucified if I killed trader's constantly. I was just asking for a special exception in the rules and whatnot.
I seem to recall it being mentioned somewhere that traders who get blown up because they fail to pay a tax, and then continue through the same route, can be taxed/blown up again. But I think this is one of those unofficial 'rules' mentioned once in one thread somewhere on the forums.

I've asked an admin that because someone tried to sell me the same thing and was told no.
This seems like a strange request to me. If a pirate threatens to blow a trader up, the trader should weigh the cost of his potential losses (in cargo and time) vs the amount the pirate is demanding. Just because Trader A has 100mil in his bank in no way entitles the pirate to a significant cut of that money. You ask and get your ransom, or you take what's in the cargo bay when you blow him up.
If I Mad Max my car and run a Hostess bread truck off the road, I'm not going to find a bag of money inside, just bread and cup cakes. If I ram an auto parts supply truck off the road I'm lookin at a complete engine kit for my Camaro... now we're talkin!:)I just don't see where any pirate should expect to get a cut of the trader's net worth just because he can see the guy's rank in his target reticle.

@ NEXUS: This is too complicated. I'm not going to go calculating some character's net worth before I demand 2 mil or death. I already have to scan him and demand something before i can completely kill him. Too much work. Besides, best for RP for me to make the demand I see fit.
@ Tank: I like the pirate being allowed to pirate a trader as often as he likes. I can still only kill a trader once. But I'd like to see a rule that if a trader is killed, he cannot continue on that trade route. Just like a fighter cannot re-engage in combat, a trader should be forced to move along to another trade route or logoff.
@ AC Merc: I agree - we need all the rules pooled in one easy to find location. Once the rule has been determined by an admin, the rule thread should need to be updated (say in a week's time).
@ Drake: Pirates who ask an absurd amount from a trader just to kill him is usually because that trader has a habit of not paying. If I run across a trader that continues to refuse to pay and taunts me, I usually make that trader's life miserable the rest of the time he's online by following him along his route and delaying him the ability to dock (ie: force him along alternate routes, etc). I figure, time is money. If a trader can make 10 mil in a round trip that takes 15 min, i'll make his trip last 30 min - this costs him 20 mil per hour profit. Would be cheaper for the trader to just give me 2 mil for the day (2% of his typical daily take home pay).
@ Morrigan: Don't care what the cargo is or how much the trader has in his bank. If he meets my demands (usually 2 mil), we both fly away happy.

I agree, I think there needs to be a rule about traders location after a kill... And I also agree on a point about a reasonable ransom.... if pirates are reasonable, there shouldn't be a problem with traders.. ( 1 - 2 mill, depending on circumstance). The only question is, what is a good ransom to let a trader go for the duration of the day? ( more than one trip though a trade run)????

I have an off-topic (sort of) question...
What is the purpose of the credit cards anyway? I've never seen anyone trading them or buying or selling them. Can I sell them for anything in Sirius, even at a base where a desirec commodity isn't on offer?
If I can't use them to buy the goods I want, what's the point?
What am I missing here?
' Wrote:the credit cards are there so you can drop them in space and pick them up on another char.
OR so you can provide a cash reward for anyone who kills you, (often used in role play events and such)
Oh I see. An easy way to transfer bucks from a trader to a fighter perhaps. Great timing. I'm just about to start a new character and go shopping for a gunship. :D
