I have Oblivion installed, borrowed a copy off of my friend and installed it.
Great game, although haven't played it in like a month or so.
Only did like 10% :D

Guard: Yes good citizen? How may I be of assistance?

Me: Umm... Can you point me in the direction of the weapon smiths? I need a dagger.

Win!

But yeah, Oblivion unmodded is an average game.

Chuck quite a few mods on there, especially OOO and Martigen's Monster Mod. One of the many Alternate beginning mods is another thing to try out.

This mod also looks like win. I've not tried it yet though.

Seriously mod like your life depends on it.

I recommend Francesco's over OOO to be honest, since I have the Shivering Isles expansion and I believe OOO doesn't touch that.

As far as the mystery part goes, indeed, I liked Morrowind's atmosphere most, the first time I got off that boat was awesome. You can get part of that back with Shivering Isles, that world is a lot more varied than Cyrodiil's forests and mountains.

I played it with all the DLC , you say its an average game but back in the days , that was like madness... Something like AC II now or MWII

The newer version does I believe. I've yet to actually try Francesco's mod.

After seeing some videos about the mods, i am thinking about reinstalling the game. I did all the vanilla quests i could find (several hundreds, all daedra shrines, faction.. etc) and.. well. Did a nice mage who could kill more things with sword than with magic, don't ask me why the spells are so inneficient... anyway.

What official/unofficial mods/patches should i install? Please, list 'em all, as i got completely lost at official bethestda things and third party software

Time has SERIOUSLY moved on since the release of that game, so things are sure to look a bit outdated, visually, or otherwise, I myself have been playing it again recently, God I love it, bring on Elder Scrolls V!

Dream Theater - "Sabre120 and Jongleur officially win. That is all."

Vanilla oblivion blows.

The mods however tend to keep it installed on my PC for an extra few weeks to a month whenever I re-install it.

The problems are numerous......... the dialouge sucks. I dont mean the whole 'omg EVERYONE speaks' aspect, but the players dialouge options..... the scale is about as bad as Freelancer, the cities are small as hell, travel time between cities is so quick, etc etc....... then theres the armor and the whole retarded heavyght aspect of it, when they should just have based it on material strength of the armor..... and ....... well Im not gona waste my time or yers ranting on all the problems (most of which mods fix)

That said, if you want a RPG, just play Fallout or Fallout2. Cause you wont find a RPG in vanilla oblivion.

You just did. It doesn't "Blow". It's a perfectly fun game. Just not as fun as others.
