*facepalm*

Right. I looked through my disco install, which was a clean .85 install. It does infact contain a bunch of unused crap.

Also, Alex is not saying he *already* removed it, he's saying these things should be torn out for .86 as they no longer serve any purpose. rtfop.

Every model is used from what I can see. The only ones un-used are the Venator and Battlestar 2.

Every other import that has been changed will still use the same filename for modding purposes.

Basically, wut?

Probably from Freeworlds. FLMM doesn't like to delete new files sometimes.

Er ya, that could be it, or some other import ridden mod filled to the brim with a mismatch of crappy ships full of errors.

Discovery doesn't have a folder called 'Starwars' in it. Soz babes.

ok...for each mod release some of us devs go trough mod files and delete redundant ones...but that process is long and brings some risk of deleting file that is actually in use...

So i am sure we will do the same for new release...in that case best solution is to uninstall the game, delete any folders left after deinstallation, and make completely fresh installation and mod activation. Then in your game folder you will have only newest of all files and game performance may be slightly better. It also eliminates possibility of strange bugs.

There is something else that could be done to reduce the size of the mod somewhat.

In nearly every vanilla (and probably some custom Disco) .mat file exists a few 'stock' textures for engines, intakes and generally misc. textures used on many ships. (e.g. engine_grill01, equip_gen, metal03, weaponplate2) If all of these 'stock' textures used by multiple faction's ships were removed from the individual mat files and placed into a single stock .mat file it could reduce the size of the mod quite a bit.

I've always wanted to do it, but it's quite a big task that would take a lot of time.

it would reduce size slightly but it would affect performance...

what can be done is that all new ships use vanilla MAT files, and there is no need that every single newly submitted ship uses its own MAT file, that contains same textures from vanilla files, basically duplicating same texture many times only under different name.
Also, for TGA textured models conversion to DDS is also recommended. It reduces size greatly.

Joke or not, this comment is not funny one bit. In fact a post with malicious intent such as this, should be a ban-able offense.

Not everyone is as computer savy as those who recognized your little "joke" it is highly possible someone may try to do such a thing, after following your advice.
