I imagine it as the internet.

The end.

Thus is my view of the neural net.

Jetblack...unlike Zelot who has proven over time that his spam outside of flood tends to on occasion have some wit to it, what's your excuse?

If you would like to ask me 'what's my excuse' & then site examples where appropriate...then cool! Otherwise GTFO unless you have something to add besides your postcount. This ain't flood Sparky...if you wanna play in this thread you gotta use your brain

Can ya do that? or should we pass ya by?

Oh & Zelot...for the record, could'ja say somethin' realish that will set a good example for the children?

If not, I'll just start to harp on about how cool it is to think my way & kill the thread prematurely.

...but I don't want that:P

What if the neural net is the ultimate in user generated content? If many Sirians are connected to this 'web' via a micro-chip, could said chip transmit as well as receive? Picture it, a news network offers a chip a programing for the fee of being able to sift through and scan the perceptions of its users? Have live data of an event as it occurs? If you turn it off for privacy, you do not get any programing.

EDIT: Actually, I should patent that, like right now.

There would probably be some sort of laws in place to ask the user, or protect the users details. It is likely they could transmit and receive, at least when they manage to network with a transmission medium, like your ship or a transmitter.

You'd likely be asked to see data on the fly, or maybe it would need to be relayed segmentally through transmission beacons, since space information travel, needs very large amounts of bandwidth. I've read something somewhere that says that space communication is 'layered' in priorities. Military as 1st, emergency as 2nd, commerce, civilian you get the idea.

Its my theory that is would cost incredible amounts of credits to 'purchase' the bandwith needed for a live connection. Think about it, on Earth, we take up little distances compared to space. Our network may be more efficient than space communication since all bandwidth is bottlenecked into beacons, or other ships and stations. Here, the internet links to a lot more people, and in theory, less bottlenecks.

That's my take NEXUS.

Good thinking there Nexus...yes, I figure it can receive...but the way I figure it, it's much more than just user generated content...It's everything we use the net for now, just accessed via the speed of thought.

In house space I do not think a transmitter would be a problem. The network of trade lanes and Jump gates are miracles of science in FL. I bet if you are near either, connection speed will not be a problem. Now if you were using a transmission bouy that is beamed outside of that network, it would be a different story.

While this is true on a planetary level; possibly, but you may need a good paid connection to get bandwidth that can handle that kind of speed. While transmission mediums are there, like optronic/organic fibres and relays on planets, in space I severely doubt its possible. Yes, processing may take place at those speeds, but accessing and writing external data and information is completely dependent on the bandwidth.

Take the remote desktop'ing as an example.

On the workstation you're using, you have all the speed you need to handle internal data, and the data on your terminal. But when you connect to another workstation either via the internet or LAN, the speed at which the data and information is changed is solely dependent on the processing and transmission rate of the recipient workstation.

The common bottleneck will forever be the transmission medium. Maybe in the future, we'll develop new technologies, but the common theory is that, even in space ages, the speed of light is only so fast, when we can travel to different solar systems.

I always did feel that it was a Neural Net that literally made use of the human brain but it in a crude less refined way then a mind share that the Nomads benefit from. I believe we still require consoles in which to "port" ourselves to in order to utilize the Neural Net. The "port" action being a simple verbal command or a simple scan of a unique feature or something. It would probably be because of this console requirements and not instant access unlimited access (like a mind share) that we may still be able to withhold information from others able to use the Neural Net.

I was being completely serious. Look at the "Eye Phones" in the futurama episode, everyone connected to a futuristic cell phone network via their brain.

Dont take shots at me, I put alot of thought into that one.
