Though I don't play tabletop. Costs too much money and time and is to me not all that interesting. Waiting on Dawn of war 2 : Retribution myself. Already pre-ordered.
Warhammer Soulstorm, Warhammer Dawn of War 2 and Chaos Rising (At Ultra high quality) are crazy. I've just finished the both campaigns of DoW2, and they are very well set. Other strategies, closer to this, are not that balanced . Here all races have + and - . From all of them I prefere these 2:
Craftworld Eldar's : Quick , not so many upgrades for them, so you can spent money for unit and assault fast. All of their units are specialists in their actions : (Reapers are the best ranged units in this game, they an rip you down from a very looong distance and with 2 upgrades are very deadly. )
Sisters of Battle : I would be very confused which to choose (eldars or them). The problem is that race request a lot of requisition points and energy in order to make a "real prepared" squads. If they can make such squads with at least first upgrades and Missionary to boost them , well they are ultimate death dealears then. (3 Battle sister's squads, 2 Seraphimes, 2 Celestial squads , both commanders and at least 1 pentient engine) = nobody can stand against the true Emperor's chosen.
Table top, Tau are one of the worst army lists I fought. First off, pray to the all mighty Emperor you don't by an Annihilation game. It's so much fun to get a one kill point for every drone I shoot down. Pray you don't fight anyone that deep strikes. Pray you don't fight anyone that outflanks, and pray you don't fight Nids.
That tau need a rules update. To date I have yet to lose to a tau army with my Mech Guard or Decent of Angels Blood Angels army. I've taken two 3rd place trophies and one first place at my local Battle Bunker and each time the tau players who enter those tournaments never made it into the finales.
The biggest problem is your units are too soft, and to easy to kill in Close combat, and they cost to much. (Partially due to being a 4th edition codex still.)
Your best thing going for you is your rail guns, but you can never taken enough fire power to waste through a Mech Guard Chimera bum rush with Valk and Leman Russ Support, which is what I usually bring on my mech guard list. A couple of Vets get up close with flamers and melta guns, the heavy flamers on the Chimera hull burn tau down on a 2 plus and ignore your armor.
Anyways, nothing wrong with playing tau there codex is dated though, to many holes and their is only one competitive list out there really.
/Being pro Imperial rant.
The standard Imperial guardsmen is better in a few base stats over a squad of Firewarriors. Better training, less equipment is the downside a guardsmen has. But you factor in a Guardsmen cost 6 points a model and will still tear tau apart in close combat, ad a commissar to a 20 or 30 man Guard squad and you have a squad that can out fight kroots if it had to.
Deepstriking Stormtroopers rape tau Crisis Suits, when they drop in from deep strike right behind your 150 point crisis suit with shield drones and hit it with 5 Plasma gun shots and 10 hot shot lasguns there isn't much left standing.
The Imperial Valkyrie is a tank hunter, broadside hunter supreme. 3 twinlinked las cannons can turn almost anything in the tau army to paste in one turn.
Coupled with the mighty Leman russ battle tanks, and Manticore rocket launchers, the fearsome might of the guard is something to be reckoned with.
The guard is more then a match for the Tau, and the Imperium of Man could crush the tau, on a whim if they so chose and would have if the Tyranid hive fleet didn't show up.
' Wrote:Tau Broadsides with Firewarrior backups and Pathfinder spotters = bye bye army
Worst comes to worst I can always assault move and spam my Hammerheads + Crisis Suits.
I do have some unusual tricks up my sleave though, some involving Stealth Suits and Drones.
Once again the problem is Tau rely in Broadsides and Crisis suits are both t4, which means Rockets, Lascannons, Melta guns, battlecannons, demo charges, and vanquisher cannons all insta-gib them and the Imperial Guard Valkyrie Melta Vet alpha strike can knock those guys down on turn one before they get a chance to fire.
Of course with guard you always have to watch out for Sly Marbo, and Creeds dirty dirty tricks.
I play Necrons, Chaos (Nurgle) and Space Wolves. Have a nice little fleet for Battlefleet Gothic too.
Since i'm bored, i'll work on my flagship... side, front and back. 24cm long, 5cm wide and 9cm from that
antennas to the keel.
I want to put as much bitz 'n pieces until you can't see the wood piece.
As for the Taus: I don't like them. They're weak in close combat. Sometimes weaker than my Necs.
Maybe cuz five knuckles are better than four.
I play Tau Empire (whatever units take my fancy), Dark Angels (balanced list).
Also, have a Chaos Daemons army on the way. All Tzeentch. Yes, that's right, I'm crazy.
Both my main Codices are from 4th edition. They need updates Q_Q
