I was wondering, Andrew, since you already did it. How the heck did you managed to set up the domain with SMF? We are having trouble to set up our customized version?

Can you lend a hand? :)

PS: We are n00bs with MySQL and PHP language.

cPanel and FTP. not that hard to set it up >.>

Hey All,

Thought I'd add my two cents here. It's great to see that there's some interest in the mod and playing on it.

In regards to releasing it, yes, all packages will come with a way to launch your own server. That way, people can have some LAN parties and of the likes. It WILL not, however, contain all the special things we hope to add to the game. (ie. forum-gameserver integration). It will essentially be the mod, with its DX9 upgrades, some other fun stuff and the bare minimum required to run the server stably and functionally.

That being said, the FW:ToW group is making their own server. It will come with pre-defined RP lore, which is already in development and quite a few more bells and whistles in terms of gameplay; I will release more information on when we're closer to release. We will be a RP intensive server, we're making sure of it.

Freeworlds, the community, will most likely be making their own server with the mod. However, from what I gathered, it will be focused more on the PVP type individual.

Now that's been said, it looks like you're hoping for more of a sandbox RP experience with no predefined RP prior to the game. In that case, I wish you luck on your server and hope you have fun with the mod is released.

In terms of release date, we have a closed beta occurring on May 21st. This will likely be 1-2 months of testing. Afterwards, we'll go back to the grind and finish the mod, which will likely take 1-2months. We will with a 90% likely, baring any catastrophic things we find during testing, be releasing the Open Beta in mid-fall.

What we want is basically to have our own lore and starting RP, defined by us. Obviously we'll follow the logic of SW timeline and history. We won't be messing around, changing things that wouldn't make sense.

I can say that we are also eager to have a server running as we wish it to be. Understand us, on Disco the players don't have anything to say about their faction lore, political evolutions, or even wars. Most of that stuff is imposed. It's certainly the easiest way to run a server, but this system is getting boring for some of us. We want to be able to decide what happens in-game for our characters and factions, at least to a certain extent. The Jedi Order wants to cut all ties to the Republic ? Fine, let's do it ! That would be unimaginable on Discovery.

And, to put it bluntly... We have no idea if the official Freeworlds server is going to be like this.

No offense, but even if that looks great, we're afraid that it'll be working the same way as Disco. We'd love to play on the main server, since it will guarantee to be with a lot of people thanks to the huge playerbase, but I guess we prefer to our own server, with our own rules (when I say "Our", I don't mean we are all going to be admins. I mean that right now all the FW RP community is shaping the server into what we want it to be, in cooperation with Andrew.)

We are so eager to play the new version of your mod that we can't let go the opportunity to have the kind of server we always wanted to play on, with the mod we always wanted to play.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.
And, of course. You're doing a great job with that mod. Thanks to you.

<strike>Ide like to bump this, and add that there are 2 new admins on the freeworldsrp admin team, Shagohad and Vogel(GL on the freeworldsRP forums)...so dont think that Im going to be sir. Bias like some of the admins here.</strike>

Edit (2-26-2012): Revoking their admin status till they skype me and tell me if they are still interested.
