"The Marinenachrichtendienst ?
They were always strange for me or better said they scared me. I have no idea what they are doing there, every attempt to talk with them failed. They just looked at you and said 'Move along, there is nothing special for you.' And if you continued to ask you sooner or later became their targets. Many people I know just vanished one day and I think it was the MND.
Of course I can be wrong, I personally never had the 'pleasure' to look inside of said department."
She looked at him and noticed his uniform looked similar to the current MND ones, but somehow different.
"What about you ? Your uniform looks like one of them, but I didn't see them for quite some time so I am a bit curious about you. What is your name, I can't remember that we have met each other before. And why are people watching me, is there something I have to know ?"
Vivien slowly became nervous, she had no idea what was going on.
" My name is not important, but the information I have are...."
The agent smiled a bit and came closer to Vivien, showing here to put her head closer too...
" I know, that the Rheinland military Marinenachrichtendienst department doesnt like that another inteligence agency has showed up in Rheinland, The Buro des Marineinteligence..."
The agent looked around, to see whether they are watched and continued:
" They are using methods, what makes them not visible, not heared. Many people are dissapearing. The track ends in their department..."
He looked around another time...
" I fear, this conflict could end in a Machtwechsel, powerchange, in the favor of the BDM, what cant be allowed. They are dangerous and their goals are not know..."
" Tell me, are the names Thomas Bauer and Jonas Reichert familiar to you?...."
"I see this is some sort of rivalry, in which only the strongest will win, no matter what it takes to achieve victory."
She had to chuckle.
"So it is the BDM that is causing the main problems...I can hardly imagine the 'methods' they are using. I think I met one of them on duty and I was not happy to see their actions, I would even appreciate the MND over them. BDM taking over the intelligence service in Rheinland, well that would certainly be a problem for me."
Vivien thought for some seconds.
"Thomas Bauer and Jonas Reichert'¦never heard about them. Is there something special about them ?"
[color=#FFFFFF]" Of course you do not know anything about them. They are a part of the dark history of the BDM. They were two MND senior agents assigned to a mission. After some time, when they found what they were looking for, Director Amsel called them to the BDM headquater. Thats the last thing we have heared about them. "
He sighed a little....
" That was weeks ago, we suspect they have been killed there, so the BDM can claim all the work of the MND and they easily removed two experienced agents..."
" I think its more than a simple rivalry, they have something bigger planned. Thats why I have contacted you. We have to do something against it..."
As he ended his last sentense two men, dressed like two zoners, entered the bar. At first nobody mind them, but they started to look around the bar, like they would looking for someone or something. That got the attention of the unknown person talking with Vivien.
" Its time to make decisions, Vivien Schmitt, you are either with me or with them " and nodded toward the two men.
Vivien looked at them. They were already mooving towards the table they were sitting at.
" Herr Eckhard, we have been looking for you...." and moved his hand for his gun to show Eckhard that he shouldnt even try to resist.
" I was already expecting you, meine Herren..." Eckhard answered, gave a look to Vivien and stood up.
The two men were escorting Eckhard to the gangar bay where they had an armored transport. Vivien followed them. At first they didnt pay attention to her, but when they entered the hangar they turned around and told her:
" Do not follow us, soldier. This is a classified BDM operation, return to your duty and dont waste our time"
After these words Eckhard turned around and looked into Vivien's eyes....
Vivien saw Eckhard looking at her, she was still thinking about his words about the BDM and this was just the perfect example to show how they were working. She started to trust Eckhard and she had to help him and pulled out her pistol and aimed at the two men.
They just smiled at her and one of them moved towards her, trying to talk with her.
<div align="right]'You do realize, that you are getting yourself into trouble ?
Do you really want that ? Put the gun away.'
A gunshot could be heard and his dead body fell on the ground. Vivien had pulled the trigger as soon as he came way too near. She was afraid of them, after all these stories she has heard. She killed an agent of the BDM, she was shocked and couldn't believe what she has done. The other agent was not moving.
'What did I do?'
She had to get out, she had to think about what just happened and ran to her ship without noticing Eckhard or the other agent from the BDM. She didn't look behind when she started the engines and left the station to head home, she had no other idea where she should go now.
She was still shocked when she entered her house, she locked the door behind her and went directly into her room and locked the door there as well. She got herself a cold drink to calm down at least a bit. She sighed.
'What the hell happened there ?'
She thought about it over and over again, but she was not able to find an answer, the only picture she had in her head was the person she shot down and the words of Eckhard.
She had no idea what she should do now, but the longer she thought about the faster she got tired and eventually fell asleep.
Vivien stayed awake the whole night, she tried to sleep but that attempt failed. She started to walk around in her house once the sun started to shine, she had prepared her stuff in case she had to leave immediately. She always looked through the windows, she had to be cautious from now on. She checked the comm systems if there were any special messages for her, skipping through the usual spam she found a message that just came through. It was sent by her former superior. She started to read it.
'Dear Vivien, Yesterday evening we received new orders and I have to say that I will not be able to follow them. We were being told to arrest you and we also received the permission to kill you should resist. I know you and I am damn sure that we would end up shooting you. I left the Military an hour ago, I just can't do that. They even refused to tell the reason for this order.
Please, we have to meet, I'll be at Station Solarius. That area is not patroled regularly these days so it should be safe, but anyhow, be careful. I will see you there.'
She heard some noises going on in her house just after she was done reading the message. Somebody had entered the house and she had to react fast and deleted the message so they won't find out that easily. She had no idea if she would get out of this alive. She had no guns in her room, the pistol was lying in her ship. The only thing she was able to find was a rusty knife, she sighed and took it with her.
She had to silently move towards the exit of her house. She saw the door already but she also heard steps nearby, seems it was only one person. He turned every room into chaos. The steps became louder, Vivien could hear his breath. He was just behind that corner, some more steps and he would see her so she took advance, stood up and used the surprise of the moment and rammed the knife into his belly. He fell on the ground and his blood slowly filled the floor of the room. She never saw that person before but he was wearing a BDM uniform, they were searching for her. She took the moment to grab some things before leaving, the time was running. When she was almost out of the house she heard a gunshot and felt incredible pain in her back. The man had used his last breath to shoot at her. The bullet went through her body, luckily it didn't hit important organs. She fell on the ground and touched the wound, there was no time to fix it now nor did she had the possibilities to do so. She had no other chance but to fly with this handicap, so she crawled into her ship, it was living hell for her.
It would be the last time for her to see her home and she knew that. She realized that when she started the ship's engines and it made her extremely sad, but she also knew that staying to die would be the worst mistake of her life. She programmed the waypoint to Omega-11 and navigated the ship to its direction. The system itself was hated by her, not only because of the Hessians in it but also because of the insane levels of radiation. She still struggled with her injury and noticed something strange on her scanners, but she had no idea what it was. An explosion occured in her ship out of nothing, it seemed she was not alone out there. Two Wraiths were following her and they destroyed her comm systems so she was no longer able to communicate with somebody. Some shots followed and her ship stopped, the main engines were destroyed. The two ships flew away, letting her alone to die.
Vivien stayed silent for some moments, it seemed all hope was gone for now. A tear was flowing down her left cheek. She remembered she had some special things in that ship and pressed a button which activated the emergency engines, her ship was now moving extremely slow, but at least it was moving. Her wound was still bleeding, but it was not that much so it should be alright for some time. Vivien programmed the auto-pilot and let the computer do the rest. It would take some time and she had no idea if she would be alive by the time the ship reaches the target. She started to have a terrible headache, probably because of the radiation.
She thought about her life, especially her childhood and her sisters. She remembered an old song and started to hum its melody, she grabbed the old picture she had from her sisters and looked at it and wished she had a chance to meet her family again. She just hoped that she would survive this, she felt she was about to lose her consciousness, the pain she had was just incredible. It became dark in front of her eyes and the view at the giant sun in Omega-11 was the last thing she saw before she lost her consciousness.
The ship continued its movement and reached Solarius after four hours, Vivien's former superior was already waiting for her to arrive and was happy when he saw her ship landing.
But he started to worry himself when nobody left the ship, he ran to it and saw her lying inside it. He called some other guys to open the cockpit and they took Vivien out of the ship. He tried to feel her pulse, she was alive and that made him smile, but she was still in a difficult situation. They brought her to the medical station where she was examined by the doctor. He looked exhausted when he came out of the room but also a bit relieved, he walked over to her former surperior and talked with him.
<div align="right]'Well, I managed to stop the bleeding, but she experienced a lot of radiation and I don't know how the consequences will be it and I am not really sure if she will survive them. We have to keep a close eye on her. It is even quite surprising that she survived in the first place, she was flying with that injury for many hours and with the radiation it would have been a deadly combination for most persons. She has a strong will to survive and she has to fight this battle now. We can only hope that she will be victorious., there is nothing we can do now to help her.'
They looked again into the room and decided to leave Vivien alone for now.
Vivien woke up in a little empty room which was barely illuminated. She was sitting on a chair, chained and was extremely confused. The room itself looked dangerous to her, even though there was nothing inside it. Her neck was hurting and she could barely breathe. The chains that hold her trapped on the chair were too strong for her, she had no chance to break them and she slowly started to panic. The feeling of being helpless was always one of her worst nightmares and now she was right inside it. A man was talking to her...
<div align="right]'Well well, seems we finally got you. We never expected you to be such a nuisance...'
The words came from behind, Vivien was not alone in the room and she didn't like that.
'Who are you and where the hell am I ?'
It remained silent for a moment and she could hear his steps after some minutes, they came closer and he finally was in front of her so she could see his face. The moment she saw him unleashed fear inside her. He was wearing a uniform of the BDM, now she was trapped in their hands.
<div align="right]'You are not in the position to ask questions.'
Vivien sighed, there had to be a way to get out of this.
<div align="right]'You will tell me everything I want to know. Tell me everything you know.'
'I know nothing, don't even try it.'
He laughed and it scared her. He pointed at a switch and smiled.
<div align="right]'The chair you are sitting on has a special feature. I am sure you will like it.'
He activated the switch. It appeared the chair was a tool to torture the poor soul that was sitting on it. It unleashed an enormous ammount of electricity that was now flooding through Vivien's body. The pain was unbearable and she had to scream. He used the switch again and it stopped, but she was still feeling the pain though.
<div align="right]'So, I hope this will help you to remember the things I wanted to know...'
'This can't be true, this has to be a nightmare...'
That sentence only caused the agent to laugh again, it all seemed to be real.
<div align="right]'A nightmare is not real my dear. But let's try this again, maybe you will realize that this is the reality.'
He used the switch again, the same procedure, the same pain, a bit longer this time. Vivien was nearly at the end of her powers, she felt that her life was about to end.
<div align="right]'Hmmm, do you want to tell me now ?'
'I...k-know nothing, please stop. Please...'
<div align="right]'You are strong for a woman, not everybody survived that far. But still, I didn't get what I wanted. Maybe I have to increase the power...'
He changed something on the controls, seemed he doubled the power of the electricity.
<div align="right]'That should work now, you should better remember fast or else it is too late and your existence will vanish...'
Vivien was too weak to say something and just watched him pressing the button, nothing she could do about it, she accepted her destiny. The immense pain was too much for her and her vision became blurry. She blacked out after a minute...
The next thing she saw was a white room, seemed it was an endless white room. She felt the emptiness.
Was she dead ? She had no idea.
She heard a voice in her head after some time, it was not understandable, only a quiet whisper. Vivien closed her eyes and only focused in trying to understand that voice. It became understandable after some moments. She listened carefully.
'Wake...up...'
It became louder and louder, up to the point that it could be considered as an disturbing sound. She opened her eyes and found herself in the cockpit of a Wraith, floating around in one of the mining fields in Omega-7.
Vivien was confused, was this the reality now? It must have been the reality, the scenario she just went through must have been a nightmare. She would be a dead person if it was the truth. She was shocked, she never expected a nightmare could feel that real. But she was still confused, she only knew that she got attacked in Omega-11, that event happened on the 11th June.
She checked the ships' systems, 2nd July...
'What the hell...'
It's been a lot of time between the attack and now, but she had no idea what happened during these weeks. She checked her belly, there was a huge scar, her injury was healed, the look at it gave her a better feeling for a short time. But a lot of answers were flooding her head.
Vivien looked around, there were two wrecks of the common mining ship, the Hegemon. It appeared that they just got recently attacked. Scanners showed no vital signs inside of them, all crew members must have died an horrible dead. She sighed and started her cruise engines, maybe the attackers were still nearby to get her. She listened to the comm channels. They were flooded with emergency calls. She closely listened to them...
<div align="right]'Attention, we have a traitor of the Military in this system. The pilot is openly attacking our mining vessels. Increase the patrols and secure the area.'
She stopped her engines and continued to listen to these transmissions. She didn't notice that there was a patrol closing in on her ship.
<div align="right]'Is that the ship we are looking for ?'
'Let me check the reports...'
It became silent. Vivien didn't want to risk a thing and tried to use her cruise engines. She got disrupted by their Cruise Disruptors.
<div align="right]'Positive, it is the one we are looking for, that's the traitor. Destroy this ship.'
She had to fight, they were ready to kill her. They were no match for her, she was a part of the Military for a long time, she knew how to fly the Wraith. Both ships were destroyed after minutes and some parts of them were now flying around in the area. She saw the escape pods of both pilots. She sighed...
'Am I really a traitor ?'
Her vision became blurry again and she heard the voice again.
'Kill...them...'
The same situation, it became louder and louder. She tried to resist it but failed and opened fire on the escape pods, no chance of survival for the trapped pilots. She couldn't believe it, she just killed two defenseless pilots. She was extremely depressed and started to cry.
'What happened to me...?'
The comm channels were again flooded with emergency calls and she knew that she had to get out of this system. The Jumpgate to Omega-3 was near, it was the only system she could run to for now. She didn't look back and just jumped there, the asteroid fields there are very large, she could use them to hide for some hours. She took the most remote field and headed there. Once she arrived she deactivated all non essential systems. It felt like a relief to her.
She realized in that moment that she destroyed those Hegemons and of course those two patrol ships. The feeling of it made her sad, she started to despise her for it, even though it seemed that these actions happened against her will.
She started to think that she was becoming insane and couldn't imagine what other things she might have done, however she had to find out about it...
She was waiting in her ship for the next 3 hours, taking unnecessary risks were out of questions in her current situation. She made her way to Freeport 1, that place was not very crowded at that time so it was a bit safer for her, however she still didn't feel well and always checked her scanners with extreme caution. The docking area was calm when she entered it with her ship, only few persons were there at the moment.
Vivien left her ship and searched for a way to get the information she wanted. The hallways were mostly empty, it felt strange for her as she always remembered this place to be crowded. It took her a while but she was able to find a terminal with which she could access the neural network.
'Hmm, let's try it.'
She was looking in old reports, ordinary reports, available for the normal Rheinland citizen. The result was not satisfying, mostly reports about Hessian attacks on mining vessels and similar histories. She sighed, it seemed she had to use the risky method. She knew how to access highly classified files of the Military, she wanted to avoid taking that method but she had to. The necessary commands were typed in and a huge list of reports was shown on the console. There was not enough time to read all of them as the security meassures were incredibly high, so she skipped most of them and only focused on the most important. She opened the files with fear and began to read them. It was not a pleasure for her, pictures and videos showing her openly attacking Military patrols, miners and civilians, in fact, everybody she once protected in the past. She was flying mostly alone, however some reports showed her with some other ships doing the same thing, she had no idea to whom these ships belonged.
She was speechless and shocked, why would she do such a thing ? She wanted to continue reading but was interupted by a noise, she turned around to look if there was somebody. Nothing. She looked back into the console and wanted to read the next report when she heard that noise again, this time it was louder than before. She turned around and was attacked by a stranger, wearing a Rheinland Military uniform. He grabbed her and pushed her into an empty room, where she fell on the ground. He followed her into the room and locked the door. She started to panic.
'Who are you and what do you want from me ?'
She received no answer which made her even more nervous. He walked towards her, his eyes began to glow purple. Its glowing calmed her down a bit and she just watched him coming closer and closer. He bend over to her and started to kiss her, she was not able to resist, her body was paralyzed when she looked into his eyes. Something was filling her throat and it kept moving down her body and suddenly she was no longer able to breathe and felt immense pain. Now she was trying to resist, however it was hopeless, the man kept holding her down and she was not able to move. She became weaker after some time, her vision started to blur and the purple eyes were the last thing she saw when she finally blacked out.
