' Wrote:The question is, should they rely on thrusters to maneuver? What do you need a thruster for, if you can go very fast (even if it isn't for a long time)?
I haven't given any numbers except the speed, which - in reconsideration might be a bit low. I don't mean to have the energy drain completly in a few seconds when you strafe, neither should it be drained in a few seconds when you go "FULL SPEED".
Or do you want to tell me that "cruiser have to EK to fight"? I think EK'ing isn't the way a cruiser should handle. It feels wrong imo. I know what's missing...Inertia, if that's the right word for what I mean.
But as I said, it's just an idea. It still has flaws. Like going to full speed and then EKing would mean you still go that fast in that direction without the "losing energy"-sideeffect.
You've got a point in questioning if caps SHOULD use thrusters to maneuver, however for the purpose of this mod, which clearly favors maneuverability and skill to use said maneuverability over armor, caps require an easy method of using all available maneuverability of the given cap.
Besides, thrusters are much easier to control than the impulse engines for the usual reasons of being able to feather and not having to constantly toggle engine kill. Keep in mind, engine kill engine physics is a LOT more realistic than impulse engine physics - as an aside, I would say that if I had my way, I would remove impulse engines entirely and replace them with thrusters, but I won't ever have my way so never mind -
' Wrote:Great ideas. I'd love to see thrusters drain more power on fighters as well - force those little interceptors to make a choice between dancing and blasting.
Or make thrusters, which use combustible fuels, have a capped limit that requires docking to refil :/
' Wrote:If you do this, you need to mega-buff caps. Caps already get raped by anything as it is.
I don't get this. I'm not so much into MP and you're going to be like :rtfm::nono:but I sirriously don't get it. Some people say that caps are O.P some say that they're U.P.. I don't understand this. when I play SP (YES I know that its a completely different thing) With a VHF I seem to do nothing to the caps. I will fire at a Liberty dread continuously for 10 mins with torps and all and they're shields are at 30%, and then they recharge. but when I'm a flagship they seem to take me down in 2dozen shots :wacko:I don't get it. but from the looks of things the same thing is happening in MP. I mean, if both sides win fair numbers of battles against each other, they only remember the close calls or the battles that they lost? Its logical since both claim theirs is U.P.
Edit: I know that bombers do a fair bit of dmg to caps(its their job) but VHF are also quite good. not as good but quite
now I am expecting this post to receive a lot of negative votes, pls don't be angry. this is just an observation
LIBERTY IS THE STRONGEST OF THEM ALL!!! oh wait, that's 4.84
Now you'll see. I'll predict the future. in 4.86 Gallia will launch a full scale attack on the houses! guess how I know.
Well, that's because you're alone in Singleplayer. In Multiplayer, you have your friends. So three or four VHF's can destroy a BS rather easily (Unless it's Solaris) because the BS can only focus on one ship at a time, letting the other three do damage, and when they get targeted they can dodge. So yes, they're fairly underpowered if only because they can only focus on one thing at a time, which makes swarming them easier. If it was in real life, where they could focus on multiple targets, well they'd be really quite powerful.
It's a rather well thought out idea, and I am glad to see such ideas. But I am on the boat with Aphil and such, caps are ok as they are, no need to be adding such things. While it's true that they can just cruise up to you and pew pew, it should not be that considering they have no CD's and a slow regen rate. It'd be easier to get away then to simply fight a cap.
Anyways, my thoughts on this.

yes, this is one of the things I don't know. but the only problem here is that the people who RP as pirates or patrols feel exactly the same about BS. maybe there should be the same as another mod(forgot the name)
VHF/bombers>Battleships/carriers/Battlecruisers>gunboat/gunship/cruiser>LF/HF>VHF/bombers,
just an Idea that would try to be fair to all
by the way, I also spend more of my time as a fighter in SP, so I understand them more

And 4-5 fighters can kick single BS with ease, especialy, not in open space. Nothing need to be added for now. Just use bombers against them. 5 to 7 bombers can own whole cap fleet easely.
With reducing caps ability to mowe, their armour and weaponry should increas, or there no point to use it.
Then, huge BS like Kusari, Rheinland, Nomad, must stay at one place, but have ultra strong hull.
P.S. Arent there is enought changes in game already. To many limits not gona work for good. And if you want to stop cap spamn- use more bombers.

That.
Also, I vote for automatic AA turrets. (If that's even possible)
So, if light battleships (Osiris, Mako..) try to avoid SNAC, they will lose energy regeneration.
IMO, that will really underpower battleships.
Freelancer is not meant to be realistic game after all.
