Guys i am not sure but maybe these videos are related to a guy on forums named "Tytanis"
he is also working on project like this in his thread named as
"My new game engine inspired by Freelancer and Discovery"
it looks good - although - also outdated by todays standards - so i m not sure if its worth it.
from the looks of it - the person doing it has finished around 0.0001% of what can be called "a game" so far. - if he is serious about it though - it might turn into something. - i just fear that .... if / when he is done with it .... its just as old as freelancer is now, just not as complex.
it might be quite a good project to show off when he is seeking a job in the sorftware industry though - meaning - its a good demo.
' Wrote:Well, that's one of couple new engines in development. As far as I know, there are 3 of them including this one.
And Freeworlds rulz!
A lot of the graphical effects between Freeworlds: ToW and this one appear to be in a similar in nature, such as the use of normal mapping to give stations and other objects the appearance of more complex surfaces for handling light reflection or just the lighting scheme in general. I wouldn't go so far as to say one was taking from the other - it just appears to be a natural progression of sorts - but I'm pretty sure we can all say it's looking cool.
I can't wait for the new Freeworlds, I hope they can keep their December release date for Tides of War that they suggested at the beginning of summer.
Also, shoved this over into the general Freelancer Forum. 'Tis a better place for this sort of discussion.
Freelancer: Next Generation, there seems to be massive potential here despite it being in the early stages.
Imagine being ACTUAL explorers, using your lights to search relics of the past for treasure... or danger.
Be that Rheinland explorer that awoke the Nomads! Or relive it. That would be fun. Battlescenarios!
The battleships actually look great, big, bad, scary buggers. One suggestion is to add "breaking thruster" effects as the ship stops, it would add a little realism to the sheer wtf-physics.
