Kate wondered if it could be possible. After all that time ? All that time where they all thought she betrayed humanity but in reality risked her own life to have a slim chance of obtaining anything valuable that would justify this sacrifice ? A lot of dark spots still remained no matter what, dark spots that would have to be enlightened if she was to survive.
She looked at Lennox. She knew he was able to hear and understand what was going on in her.
"Th-There isn't any t-time to waste. The lab m-must be in some pr... pretty bad shape now but... but... You can't block us forever... embrace your destiny Kate." said Kate on different tones, as she shook her head afterwards. "Need to be... quick. Get the p-power on as fast as possible... and... p... put me in the chair."
~Your will is starting to fail, Kate. We can feel it.~ ~You just don't understand.~ ~We understand your motives, and their nobility. We gave you our trust, our knowledge, and even ourselves. You have served us well, but does it have any meaning now that you have betrayed us ?~ ~You justified a war over a single incident. It's you that lied to me. At one point, I was ready to become honest and forget my mission, because I thought a peace was really possible. It's you that failed, you have failed to hide your true motives to me, and especially that you never wished a peace to happen, but just to claim back your sector.~ ~Were it so easy.~ ~It could have been.~ ~So be it then. Your fall is imminent.~
Listening to Miller which state was getting worse and worse he decided to try keep Miller fighting if possible at all. 'Nomads wonder why we resist, even when situation is hopeless.' He looked through the small window in shuttle. 'Determination and will to fight is what keep us alive, makes us advance. According to them we are on the way to self-destruct yet bunch of young monkeys that barely grasped space can face a highly evolved race which is supposed to be superior.' At that momenth he pointed gun at Miller showing it's directed to her. 'I know they can hear, or maybe they read my mind right now. You never proved to be worth trust, manipulating humans on numerous occasion to destroy themselves and for that we will put eternal silence on your mindshare. Bailiff is knocking at your doors, your time here has ran out.' After that, pilot reported that they were closing in to station. Old landing pad in appearence was abandoned but still usable. Side doors opened and they could see Epsilon facility covered partialy in ice and snow. Golanski aproached doors to open it with his clearance to let others in. 'Move in. Fast.'
The Epsilon Facility was a forgotten outpost that belonged to the Delta Wing of the Order. It was forgotten purposely and called off limits by the Order High Command because of all the sins and the crimes that the Delta Wing commited in it that forced the OHC to permanently shut down the Delta Wing. The outpost was in bad shape, damaged by the freezing and the snow that built itself upon the outpost and the violent periodic snowstorms that errupt all of a suddent. Hopefully, the front door was still accessible and Golanski was already there, ready to open it.
The Project Lazarus was the one that had made the most victims. Reactivating it, even for Miller would bring back some bad memories for those who knew about. 56 dead bodies were retrieved by the Order Special Forces when the facility was cleaned by them upon the request of the OHC. What they had learned from all the data was what the Delta was trying to accomplish using test subjects they had infested themselves using recreated nomad incubis that were nothing else than nomads in a vegetative state. For the Deltas, the ultimate weapon was to cut a nomads link to the mindshare. This way, they wouldn't even have to fight it. Unfortunately, as they carried on their tests with different parameters, they've found one that they never expected. With a very specific array of psi pulses, the capabilities of the nomad were extended, to the point that the vegetative incubi inside the test subject became linked to the mindshare. Of course, the subject was terminated, but the data kept for a potential project. It was that data that interested Kate, the only way, she thought, to properly pull off her trick. There was a huge chance that it wouldn't work, but if you never try, you never know.
She looked at Lennox as Golanski was waiting for them at the massive metallic door. "G-give me an hand please... It's start-t-ting to be hard to move."
The words punched into his mind as Miller had another 'conflict' with the present neural activity that was around her. Getting in some kind of absence while trying to understand what is 'spoken' he finally snapped back to reality as Kate spoke to him. Still hearing the echoes of the conflict between her and that superior power, he looked at Miller suspiciously at first. She still was infested, no doubts for him. But something whispered to him that he shouldn't be afraid. As he looked into the glowing eyes, his heartbeat increased slightly, reminding him from the day when he had that glow in his eyes too, when looking into a mirror.
His mind, that was still whispering to him to help her, got the upperhand and Lennox nodded slowly. Not intending to struggle against it, he thought that it would be worth it.
"Sure....let's do not wait any longer...."
He knew pretty well that it is almost impossible to get a nomad completely out of somebody. He had a lot of luck in his past with that. So why not granting a try? He thought and reached her his arm to hold on but also taking place closer to her in case he had to support her more. Slowly walking with her to the door, he had a look on her walking from time to time, also on her eyes, just to make sure nothing would get wrong.
Mantear and her team were already in position at the Epsilon facility. She focused again, driving all emotions, all thoughts out, and grabbed control of the void. Checking the sidearm at her hip one more time, she gave a nod.
The massive doors slid open, revealing the other team, Miller being supported by Agent Lennox, Michal Golanski and his escort trailing behind.
"Miss Hunter, package is here. Prepare for the procedure" She said, the void making her sound cold and distant.
As Michal entered, she gave him a flat stare, before walking up besides him.
"Let's hope that your...compassion in bringing this one here isn't the end of us all."
Activating her comms headset, she made a direct link with the Arsephes, floating in orbit above Toledo.
"Elayne? Mantear here. Get a monitor on our lifesigns in here, and prepare surface bombardment batteries...If any of our lifesigns seem to deteriorate or flatline....Destroy the facility."
There was a noticeable pause, before Elayne's reply. ....Yes.
Noticing that everyone in the room was now looking at her, Mantear motioned them to get on with it.
Still being distracted a bit by the coursing loose words in his mind, he concentrated his body only on supporting Kate and listening if there would be something to listen to. Though, having an eye on the woman he was supporting, Lennox tried to encourage her resistance against the neural superiority but without saying something. He just thought something in a part of his brain that normally isn't used by normal human actively. He tried to send Kate a message by using the same way to communicate like he can hear it from her. Though, he was just thinking what he wanted to say, not sure if he is even capable of sending a message like that. Being aware it might not be understandable or even 'transferable' into Miller's head, he tried it anyway, ignoring the fact he might not suceed.
~Things are difficult....I know how you feel. The nomads are weak...they never will know what it means to be human, nor what it means to act like one. They fear us for our beliefs....let them feel how strong these beliefs are...~
Ellie nodded, setting her drop bag down and openning her computer up. She slid a slim data core matrix into the computer. She directed her equipment to be set up in each corner, then tapped Enter.
"Whitemane, come on out. We have work to do."
The equipment that had been set up glowed; each the size of two old-earth digital video cameras, they emitted a warm golden glow, and some white light. In the center of the room materialised a massive holographic wolf. He was golden, with a mass of white fur around his throat.
"Greetings." The AI said. His voice was deep and solemn, seeming to eminate from him. He looked thoughtfully at Miller, then at Golanski. "I am initiating a Code Two lockdown of the Epsilon Facility. All doors between the marines and us are no part of this lockdown. I would request the present Overwatch members move to the opservation chamber now. Lennox." The massive wolf swung his head. "Lay Miller facedown on the table so I may run scans."
Ellie began to type. After what seemed like minutes, she looked up.
"Whitemane will have the Miller's vitals, as well as our vitals, on a hologrsphic representation. He also will have the entire procedure filmed, and show you whatever you cannot see. Doctors. " She looked at the doctors. "Get ready. Me and Whitemane will direct you to the incubi."
Ellie glanced at Mantear. It was extreme. Extremely. Arsephes? Hamunaptra would suffice. Ellie shook her head. If you can kill it, might as well overkill it.
Golanski was looking on entire process. 'You treat it as suicide mission. Right now we have better chances of killing her than in space. Informations on Nomads will be invaluable if we succeed here. Even if it fails, there's still one Wilde less.' He answered to Mantear with confidence, checked on his rifle again, observing entire process awaiting for it to start. 'Begin soon as you're ready scientists.' Time was closing, time of truth. Will it work? What will happen next? Golanski's thoughts about possibilities of nomad technology used against it's creators or at least, one Nomad agent of that calibre dead is less trouble in future... Specialy considering abilities and achievments of Miller. Michal hoped it may work, but his logic rejected it. Regardless of internal conflict, He was prepared for both outcomes.
Kate was being examinated on the table by the doctors when she raised her hand to shove their tools away. "We don't have... time... for this !"
She attempted to stand up to go to the chair herself, but as soon as she got on both her legs, she fell, due to the incubi trying in any possible way to prevent her from doing so. Lennox ran up to her, and helped her to sit in the chair.
"Listen to m-me carefully, Le-Len-nox. You m-must calibrate th...the Lazarus with th-the computer on... frequencies... 468... 3 1...19...314. Go now."
Thus said, she put her wrist on the armrest, two handcuffs coming out from them and making her immobilised in the chair.
