I think, it may not be correct, that it is possible to target shield if it has visible hardpoint for it. Actually you can hit anthing that is mounted on ship except thrusters, id, scanners and maybe shields.
Actually it can be usefull if you are using high refire rate guns.

Sheilds can be targetted, hit and destoryed. Nice feeling, knowing your sheild batteries are now completely useless..
Happens to me all the time in my Challenger and Hussar, when I'm up against something of exlposive nature.
Edit: Had my thrusters blown off many times before also.
I target thrusters, as they are easier to hit when you are chasing someone. If you want to be mean, you can target the most expensive sub-target. That way they find a nice big repair bill when they land, if they escape without out it being destroyed of course.
[BLS]Alekzander seems to be an expert in removing my weapons. I train with him quite a lot, and no matter how many CM's I drop, those missiles always seem to break though and knock of my CM dropper. Then my mines, then my inferno.... need it go on???

That sounds sooo wrong:)
' Wrote:I dont use it so I cant tell how effective it actually is.
Very, against any kusari ship based off the dragon HF target the middle/tail fin. Blow that off and they lose CM dropper, mine dropper and thruster, no more thrusting around to dodge, no more nuc mines inna your face and no more CMs stopping you from cruise disrupting them.:lol:evil, evil tactic but fun if they're not doing alot of damage to you.
' Wrote:I have never found it useful.
But I only mount guns, and never missiles. Is that why?
Possibly, guns just take longer I think.
Quote:I also heard flak dummies weps very well. Why is that?
Before they got nerfed you use to be able to kill the fighters in an NPC cruiser patrol with 2 to 3 flak salvoes (using at least two flak turrets) kill the gunboats with another 2 salvoes and the cruiser itself with another 3 to 4 salvoes, god I miss being able to use them...
I wonder if those class 9 flak turrets are still for sale on NB... if so I want one.
' Wrote:Could you target shields with this so paralyzers could actually hit big ships?
CP
You can target shields and blow them off so they don't have one anymore... but only as long as the shield is mounted outside, it won't work on a nomad ship cos the shield is mounted inside (or it appears to be). Plus I think all capship shields are mounted inside them.

You can't hit ID's and scanners, anything else mounted outside the ship can be though.
Don't know about the gun bit, but even if you lose, if they have codes mounted it'll cost a alot to fix them, unless they commit suicide...
ehm.. all this is nice... but.. remember that it takes at least 4 Cannonball hits to shot just about anything off (CM goes after 2)..... any vanilla ship is as good as death after 4 Cannonballs....
and about the BD.. .they got strengthened in 4.84.. so now you most like will kill the ship before you shot anything off.

so yes this works against bombers... since they can take a lot of damage.... but not really against fighters.
